Were you honestly expecting Gran Turismo 5, the game that’s been in development for far too long now, to actually be released in March like Polyphony Digital said? Well, it’s not – as Sony Computer Entertainment have just confirmed the game has been delayed. the game’s new release date has been changed to the very vague date of “TBAâ€
The game, which has cost $60 million to make so far has a plethora of interesting features, neither of which really matter if their competitors can release two critically acclaimed games in the time taken for PD to release a demo.
Perhaps Polyphony Digital are reworking the game to feature 3D visuals, or they’ve hired the team from now defunct 3DRealms, and are changing the name of the much anticipated racing sim to “Gran Turismo Foreverâ€

delaying it for 3dtv reasons seems the most plausible. apparently espn are launching their 3dtv channel in jun/jul (rumours are that they will be broadcasting the wc2010 in 3d).
so i would assume there will be a big push in 3dtv sales to the run up for that, and it makes sense for gt5 to be one of the first games to feature it.
or it could be they all too busy playing final fantasy and couldn’t be bothered to finish gt5

The WC will be filmed in 3D but I highly doubt they are going to delay this game for that reason.
GT5 is running into the same problem as Alan Wake and Duke Nukem, it has now taken so long they have to ensure it is really awesome before releasing it else it will be held against them forever.
The problem is that the longer they the greater the chance that they will completely miss the boat and be left behind.

no, for sure i agree with you whole heartedly about all the delays, but aiming coincide it’s release with the ‘unofficial’ roll out of 3d would be advantageous from a marketing stand point.
the wc is viewed by over a billion people and its safe to say a small portion will by a 3dtv purely for the event, and by default launching a (possibly the only) 3dtv capable sports game in the same time frame sounds like marketers wet dream.
not that i care all that much… 3d tv’s are some time off for us normal south african wage earners.

Could it be that all cars will consist of Duke Nukem drivers?

From what I could tell only the Japan release has been delayed. It’s still “Summer 2010” for westerners.

Im still looking forward to it , but fear it will just end up plain boring compared to other racing games , pretty .. but boring.

The thing is, March 2010 sees the release of a few highly anticipated PS3 franchises. GoW3, FF13. As well as potentially big IPs, White Knight Story and Heavy Rain.
So perhaps they moved it to avoid getting lost in the noise of the others?
(if anything i’d have moved it to Feb if that was my concern)

I so called that a few months back. Why they ever thought they could git GT5 and GoW in the same month is beyond me.

In all fairness it gives us more time to finish off some AAA Feb/March titles and save some extra moola for it. I would certainly need a bank loan for March’s games. :cwy:

Interesting that the delay is 1 month in japan stated by SCEA themselves on the PS blog as well as Credible online sources such as gamesindustrybiz,
Source: http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/gran-turismo-5-faces-new-delay,
not 3 months that sensationalist blogs have posted,

Hi lans,
SCEA is Sony America who have not yet commented on this delay as America hasn’t announced a release date yet.
The delay is unspecified according to Reuters (http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTOE60C06C20100113?type=marketsNews) who are possibly the most well respected media company in the world. It appears the delay was initially 1 month, then 3 and now it’s TBD
As soon as Sony announced something more substantial around this issue we will post a new story to update you.
