BROFORCE

I’m a huge fan of the American ideal, not the American reality. And that’s the right to free speech and copious amounts of weapons. BroForce is all that, plus a heaping dose of Vitamin Baysplosion. And it launches today on Steam Early Access.

BroForce, a 2D homage to games such as Contra and Metal Slug, but on an action-packed gradient that can only be described by mangling the English language like a past-his-prime action star from the 1980s, is equal parts cheese and explosions.

In it, you’ve got brotastic heroes such as Rambro, Brade and MacBrover. And many, many more equally ridiculous characters. Run, gun and Brosplode your way across various destructible levels, which also feature Bro-Op gameplay.

In short, it’s a charming, destructive and addictive little title. And well worth chipping in some coin to support local studio Free Lives.

You know bromance involves at least two people right? Are you asking him to be your plus one?

I’m not quite sure yet how I feel about early access. It’s good to have the game tested and all, but so far I haven’t seen them give these people who buy so early any more privileges or bonuses than anyone else who buys at release.

Have you tried out the Brototype? You can grab it for free on the Free Lives website.

        Didn’t know that.
Ah. But for free, I shall test it without limits!
I must admit though. I don’t have a problem with buying early access, if they make it worth it to you. I bought Planetary Annihilation early access and struggled through all the bugs and updates. It’s now in gamma and it’s really starting to come together nicely, just hope they reward their fans who supported them from the start.

Early access is not a reward program though. I mean the reward you get for supporting them early is in the name, earlier access to unfinished games. Some games do give you ‘backer’ exclusive stuff that you can’t get once the game comes out, but it’s usually just some cosmetic layer and is more prevalent with Kickstarters than Steam’s Early Access titles.

I get what you mean, and you’re right. So far I’ve enjoyed supporting these games regardless. I’m not saying they should give these guys some huge thing, but a gesture of thanks would be nice. The big fans are the guys willing to support a game while still in production.

I agree with that. Sadly it’s a feat that seems to have been skipped with Early Access. Kickstarter almost always have this though (assume it helps as an incentive).

On another point, almost every Early Access game is discounted against the retail price. Not that it mean much given the recurring steam sales & the indie bundles floating around.

True. I bought my Planetary Annihilation at quite a decent price. Now in gamma it’s really starting to show it’s worth.
