Bungie admits it made mistakes with Curse of Osiris, outlines plans to fix them

CurseofOsiris

Destiny 2 is a really good game – but its latest expansion, Curse of Osiris is a step or two backwards. It’s short; it’s boring and adds little of value to the base game. Worst of all, is that just by existing, it locks players who don’t own the DLC out of content they could access before. Because some prestige events now require the higher light level only attainable through the DLC, those without the extra content can no longer access them. Of the many blunders made with the new DLC, that’s arguably its greatest one.

Bungie has admitted it made a mistake in that regard, and will be unblocking most of those activities, whether players own the DLC or not.

“With Curse of Osiris now live, it’s clear that we’ve made some mistakes with how we handled content access,” says a blog post addressing the problems. Bungie went into detail explaining how they came to the decision originally. By having prestige raids and other end-gamer activities tied to the higher light levels of DLC, they hoped to keep the endgame relevant. Unfortunately, all they did was piss off players who were now locked out of content, and the ability to earn trophies and achievements.

Here’s how they’re planning to fix the game, with an update that’s being deployed after the scheduled maintenance – which is set to run from 5pm until midnight today (South African Time – that’s 1500-2200 UTC).

Curse

  • The Prestige Leviathan Raid will be brought back down to Power 300, and its rewards will drop down to match the new Power Level. All players will regain access to the Prestige Raid.
    • This will allow access to “The Prestige” Achievement/Trophy for all players.
    • This will also allow all players ability to complete the final step for the Legend of Acrius Exotic Shotgun.
  • Trials of The Nine will only require Curse of Osiris when it features a Curse of Osiris map. For all other weeks, it will be available to all players.
    • This will allow access to “Lest Ye Be Judged” Achievement/Trophy for all players.
    • Trials of The Nine rewards that launched with Destiny 2 will still be accessible to all players.
    • New Seasonal Rewards that launched with Curse of Osiris, such as the new Seasonal Armor Ornaments, will require ownership of Curse of Osiris to acquire.
  • The Prestige Nightfall will remain a pinnacle activity, at the new 330 Power cap.
    • This means Prestige Nightfall will require ownership of Curse of Osiris.
    • Because of this, we will update “The Prestige” Achievement/Trophy to only reference The Prestige Raid.
    • Moving forward, we are investigating adding a 3rd difficulty to all Prestige activities, so that we can provide both a challenge that stays relevant with each new Expansion, and a Prestige version that is available to all players.
  • Normal Nightfall will only require Curse of Osiris when it features a Curse of Osiris map. For all other weeks it will be available to all players.
  • Time limited events – Iron Banner, Faction Rally, and The Dawning, will be made available to all players.
    • We will be postponing tomorrow’s Faction Rally, to ensure all of our players can access the activity and the appropriate rewards.
    • Iron Banner and Faction Rally rewards that launched with Destiny 2 will still be accessible to all players.
    • New Seasonal Rewards that launch with Curse of Osiris, such as the new Seasonal Armor Ornaments, will require ownership of Curse of Osiris to acquire.

This is perhaps anecdotal, but the new DLC has really soured perception for Destiny 2. Many of the most ardent players within my own circle have looked to other games to get their multiplayer fixes. While a DLC faux pas like this is hardly a death knell, the next DLC had better be spectacular to bring players back.

I’m surprised they did not get nearly as much flak as EA with all the crap they have been doing lately.

Aah Bungie is not doing so well on the community side of things so far with Destiny 2. This makes me sad, as the game is very decent. Helping my daughter and nephew to level up and replay the story was fun as hell.

The DLC was an afterthought, fkkn miff we had to pay for this smallanyana what what of an expansion.

We literally logged in, played the micro-campaign extension and then asked “is that it?”

I’ll have one go to finish this sad nano-raid then I’m putting the lot back on the shelf and play something else. That endgame is still fkkd. Meh!
