Bungie is ready to punish any Trials of Osiris cheaters in Destiny

Trials

Destiny kicked off a new multiplayer mode last week with its House of Wolves DLC, the exotically-titled Trials of Osiris. It’s online competition to the extreme, as the mode drew in a ton of players who were hoping to secure enough straight wins in order to pick up a few pieces of high-level gear for the game. And of course, the Trials of Osiris drew in a few cheaters. Of course it did. And Bungie wants to do something about that.

If you’re unfamiliar with Destiny’s new weekend event, the idea is simple enough: Rack up nine straight wins, and you’ll be able to visit Mercury and get your hands on some premium-quality exotic gear. Earn three losses, and YER OUT! But earn a few victories, and you can then purchase some gear from an Osiris disciple using your wins. Easy, right?

Not so, according to social media channels, with numerous folks talking of being forced disconnect from their Trials game by the enemy team and thus forfeit their match entirely. That gave the culprits a free win essentially, and soured the experience. Bungie however, has taken note of this, and have pledged to fix the mess up:

Not everyone became legend in Trials of Osiris. There were reports that some of you had your connections interrupted. We’re on the case!

*Stern tone of voice*

There were some among you who took nefarious action against your opponents. Our intrepid team of investigators has diagnosed the most egregious cheaters among us. If you earned your victories by sinister means, you may very well have also earned a temporary (or permanent) time-out.

Bungie is always watching. We enjoy a fair fight and we aim to protect the landscape of the game. Play nice!

*Reassuring tone of voice*

Some of you who encountered the #Olive error were not actually victims of shenanigans. You just ran afoul of a bug (it’s not your fault). As of this morning, that bug has been fixed. Your experience in the Crucible should greatly improve.

Reception towards the Trials of Osiris has been somewhat…mixed, to say the least. Some players like it, as that particular Crucible properly rewards high-level play with an exclusive zone of treasure and goodies. Other hate it, as that particular gameplay does not favour the unprepared, with some participants claiming that their chances of racking up enough wins to buy any gear is already ludicrously low when more skilled players enter the arena.

  1. Those *tone of voice* sections reminded me of KOTOR’s assassin droid (HK-47). “Explanation: It’s just that… you have all these squishy parts, master. And all that water! How the constant sloshing doesn’t drive you mad, I have no idea.”

“Translation: He requires proof of good faith. We must make a contribution to his people that shows we are not a threat. Shall I blast him now, master?”

“Retraction: Did I say that out loud? I apologize, master. While you are a meatbag, I suppose I should not call you such.”

I am looking forward to the Iron Banner which starts tomorrow. I can buy the new currency to upgrade there at level 3 and 5… That is probably the only way I will get them!!
