The second of four planned Burnout Paradise updates for 2009 has been announced, and this one’s something else. Coming next year, Criterion Games will add the “Legendary Cars Pack,” and the first vehicle they’re showing off is none other than Dr. Emmett Brown’s De Lorean Time Machine from Back to the Future. Ahem, excuse us — make that the “Jansen 88 Special,” which has absolutely no relation to Dr. Emmett Brown’s De Lorean Time Machine from Back to the Future. There, now no one’s getting sued.

Just like the car it’s not based on, the Jansen 88 Special will leave burning tire tracks behind when you go into boost mode, and you’ll even be able to hover “at head height” when you click in the L3 button. You will not, however, be able to time travel. Clearly its flux capacitor needs replacing.

The Jansen 88 Special is one of four “Legendary” cars that Criterion will add to Burnout Paradise, which players can either purchase individually or as a pack at a discounted price when they’re released (release date and pricing haven’t been revealed). The other cars will be called the Cavalry Bootlegger, Manhattan Spirit, and the GT Nighthawk. Anyone want to guess what other famous cars won’t be used as inspiration? We’re holding out hope for the Ecto-1.
