Call of Duty 4 outsells Halo 3 in 2007

I think the success of Call of Duty 4 has taken many people by suprise.

Granted the game is available on a lot more platforms than Halo 3 but it is still quite an amazing feat to outsell the juggernaut that is Halo 3.

I just received a press release in my inbox from Megarom who distribute COD4 locally. According to stats gathered from NPD and GFK, COD 4 has officially outsold Halo 3 in the 2007 calendar year.

Quite an achievement if you think that it was released quite a while after Halo 3 last year.

Full press release after the break.

This does not surprise me as it is a much better game than Halo3.

Don’t get me wrong, I really enjoy CoD4 For this exact reason, but I’m only a 1 year+ console noob, and CoD4 does nothing “amazing” that wasn’t done in PC games before. In fact there are only 2 things that weren’t already done in battlefield and that was perks and the death cam.

While I’m not surprised at it’s success, I’m surprised at the scale of it. I think it’s pretty much saying that hardcore console gamers are growing up and don’t want their games dumbed down, just because there’s fewer buttons.

COD4 is an amazing game by amazing games’ standards. Honestly. No game other than Bioshock and Mario could rub shoulders with Call of Duty in 2007.

Justice! Infinity Ward could have sticked with the same sucessfull formula as in COD2 and not take any chances but they chose to do something different and it payed off. Halo 3 on the other hand hasn’t add much significant to Halo 2. It’s as if Bungie was afraid to change the formula. Good for Infinity Ward

I’m really glad to hear this. COD4 was by far the more superior game in multi and singleplayer. Infinity Ward should have made the game longer but the same can be said for Halo 3, a game that I felt was little to no different to the first and second outings of the franchise.

COD4 is not better than Halo3. It all depends on your personal taste. And I happen to like Halo3 more. The MP is the most fun I’ve had since Warcraft2 on the PC!
