Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare’s multiplayer explained

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare developer Sledgehammer Games has released a new 7 minute video showing the changes that have been made to the game’s multiplayer. As that’s the bit of the game that most gamers will be playing, it’s probably a good area to focus on. And it looks like it could actually be pretty fun.

For starters, there are actual changes coming; it’s not just a rehash of the things we’ve seen and played before. Yes, the new tech makes it all a little reminiscent of Titanfall – especially now that Titanfall’s got a mode that removes the mechs.

It’s the exo-suit that grants players these new abilities, like boosting, exaggerated jumping, dodging, dashing, sliding, and slamming. Coupled with the new Pick 13 perk system, it should manage to make Call of Duty feel fresh again. According to Activison, Advanced Warfare offers players “the greatest amount of customization in franchise history.” It looks like Activision’s actually taken a few risks with this new game; a move that could alienate the established player base.

Frankly though, it’s a set of risks that were sorely necessary after Ghosts, which was the very epitome of Call of Duty’s annualised copy and paste nature. Still, I’m not quite sold. I’ll probably play the single player because they’re great end-of-year, shut-your-brain-off popcorn entertainment – and because it features a digital Kevin Spacey.

As much as it’s changed, the multiplayer is still very much Call of Duty, and it’ll have to change quite a bit more to pull me back in.

I’ll play the MP sure, on these conditions:

    – R5 to me for each insult from a self entitled whine-bag I have to endure
    – R100 to me per 30 minute game play
    – R30k per month as “hazard pay”

Why not just kill them? Again, and again, and again, and again. Best way to deal with someone like that.

Half the time I’ve played online I haven’t even noticed when someone’s talking to me because the text in in a little corner & I’m focusing on what I’m doing.

Regarding these insults: is it really that distracting? Can’t you just mute them? or do the buggers sent chats as well?

You can change the game; you can;t change the players.

That’s what I liked about TF2. The defending team has to camp of course, but because the front-line continuously shifts it doesn’t fall into the pattern of : “Ok, I can’t go around this particular corner because someone always camps at that other window”. The only aggravation was landing in a team where nobody wanted to play Medic 😛

Team Fortress 2. It is an incredibly awesome team-based shooter with classes: engineer, medic, heavy, sniper etc…

It’s like they saw Planetside and said, let’s combine most classes into the exoskeleton. Plus adding Kevin Spacey (and hopefully a decent SP campaign) I might, just might sully my hands with this.

I used to make maps for counter-strike, it was awesome… now you need a whole dev team to make maps.

      Good ol days

If only they would make a game mode with vehicles and less bugs than BF4 I would maybe buy a copy maybe … on a steam sale or humble bundle …. maybe.

I will happily buy it – its looking good. Yes even if it is a COD game! You haters will always hate…but given its a shooter it can hardly start having Mario type karts and tracks now can it…

RED SHELL INCOMING…wait…that actually sounds quite cool!
