There are so many games coming this month and next that just trying to keep up with the zeitgeist can lead to financial ruin. Every week there is a handful of “must-have” games coming to just about every platform. Tracking company Nielsen has done some research into which of those games is most anticipated, and the results will not surprise you in any way, whatsoever.

As it has for the last handful of years, Call of Duty is at the top of the average video game consumer’s wishlist. Last year’s Infinite Warfare tied with Battlefield 1 for the spot, but this year it’s riding high as the “overall anticipation” for WWII is at 99%. Coming second overall is Assassin’s Creed Origins, at 95%. Both games are from established series, but both have gone back to the drawing board after relatively weak releases. This news is probably terribly rewarding for the respective studios.

The third most anticipated game is also unsurprising, with Star Wars Battlefront II’s 90% anticipation rating. When it comes to platform exclusives, Forza 7 tops the Xbox One list, while Gran Turismo Sport is the most anticipated game on PlayStation 4. Naturally, the most anticipated game on Nintendo’s Switch is Super Mario Odyssey, while Pokemon Ultra Sun and Moon are the games most 3DS owners want.

And then you have PC gamers, who seem to want to get in on that remaster and rerelease action. The top games for that platform are Age of Empires: Definitive Edition, followed by Fallout 4 VR and the rerelease of L.A. Noire.

If you’re wondering why the game you’re most excited for isn’t on this list, Nielsen explains it:

“While the games mentioned here currently have higher levels of anticipation across the broader body of gamers overall, they’re certainly not the only interesting games coming out this holiday season. There are certain titles each year that may not resonate quite as strongly with consumers for one reason or another, yet are still highly anticipated by smaller groups. And some games coming out this holiday season may simply be late bloomers that haven’t caught the attention of gamers just yet, but could come on strong right before (or even shortly after) launch.

Other games to watch for this holiday shopping season include EA’s Need for Speed: Payback, which adds to the publisher’s racing franchise after skipping 2016; WB’s Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor, the follow-up in the action/adventure series set in the Lord of the Rings universe; two sequels from Bethesda, shooter Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus and suspense thriller The Evil Within 2; and two releases from Ubisoft, the comedic RPG sequel South Park: The Fractured But Whole, and this year’s rendition of the rhythm/dance series Just Dance 2018.”

You tell us! Which of the impending releases are you most excited for?

Pretty accurate for me. But I can’t afford both CoD WWII and Ass Creed. I don’t know what I’m going to do. :/
