The cancellation of Hideo Kojima and Guillermo Del Toro’s Silent Hills collaboration will likely go down in history as one of the saddest things to ever happen in the realm of horror games. The now thoroughly removed from the internet Playable Teaser that introduced the world to its concepts was a fantastic and chilling look at the sort of horror we might expect.
And though PT is now gone and Silent Hills will probably never be made, we have something to take its place: The super creepy-looking Allison Road. We’d heard about the game before, which took is cues from Konami’s PT demo; only instead of the demo’s obtuse goals and looping structure, Allison road will feature a full story, and a mystery that desperately needs solving.
“The player will encounter Lily, who is pivotal to the story and who, at the same time, is not what she might seem to many people out there right now. While Lily does present a mortal threat to you, there are other forces way beyond your comprehension at work; and while the clock is ticking against you, you will have to find a way to escape this deadly peril while your fate and Lily’s fate are inevitably linked.”
Sounds creepy. And here it is in prototype action, showing that it looks creepy too. The 13 minute prototype demo was put together by a small six-man team at Lilith Ltd, and isn’t a vertical slice. Though it shows real gameplay, it’s not what you’ll see in the full game – so as to avoid spoilers and such,
“Everything you see here is work in progress of course; some of the assets are just stand-ins and stuff like that, however, it was important to us to show you what Allison Road looks like when played,” they say.
It sort of looks and feels like a creepy blend of PT and indie darling Gone Home, which I think is rather the point. There’s no word of platform or release date yet.
