Sledgehammer Games, the studio making this year’s intriguing Call of Duty was started by former Dead Space developers Glen Schofield and Michael Condrey. For a while, they were working on a 3rd-person Call of Duty spinoff. That failed to happen, with the team from Sledgehammer working on Modern Warfare 3 instead. Sledgehammer has now, years later, revealed a little about the binned 3rd-person game.
"We had spent six or eight months on it, and were really getting into the story," Sledgehammer co-founder Glen Schofield told Game Informer. The game was set in a specific part of the Vietnam War, and would have added some fresh mechanics to the series.
"Everyone thought that war was in Vietnam, right?" Schofield explained. "It was in Cambodia and Laos, too. We did a lot of research on that war, a hidden war, and there were thousands of miles of underground tunnels."
"We had the tunnels, and we were definitely going for some Dead Space moments," he revealed. "It was gonna be a fresh take on war, that’s for sure."
Unfortunately, for all their work, only 15 minutes of the game was playable – but Activision was so impressed they roped the studio in to help the ghost of Infinity Ward with Modern Warfare 3. they impressed doubly with their efforts, landing a gig as one of the cycle developers for Call of Duty – and now they’re on Advanced Warfare, which silly title aside looks like the most interesting Call of Duty in ages.

I actually think the MP games are quicker. In blops2 a mp tdm game would last about 5-10minutes.

Why do I think they haven’t thought this title through very well? Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter springs to mind.

speaking of ghost recon
I wish more new games would use a squad system like the first Ghost Recon.
man that game was the shit.
building your squad up, giving them stats, trying to keep them alive throughout the campagn otherwise theyr permenantly gone, being all tactical and shit.

Personally I’d love another Vietcong. Man that game had some intense moments, especially the hilltop defense and the lost in the jungle at night bit.
