There’s a ton of cash in mobile gaming. Provided that the masses all focus on your game before the inevitable clones arrive. Take for instance, Candy Crush Saga owner King. That game has made hundreds of millions so far. And it’s still drawing in the big bucks, even beating renowned gaming giants such as Nintendo when it comes to pure cash comparisons.
According to A List Daily, King managed to haul in over $641 million over the first three months of 2014. Nintendo? The house of Mario and Donkey Kong brought in $411 million in comparison to the candy kingdom, a difference of around 56%.
And you can thank Candy Crush for that massive margin. The hit game continues to be a license to print cash for King, as it accounted for two-thirds of its earnings, or around $427 million. That’s one game, beating everything that Nintendo has released so far in the first quarter of 2014. Still, Nintendo will most likely surge past those figures in the holiday season, where it generally shines.
But for now, that’s a bloody depressing statement as to just how outclassed Nintendo is as of late.

Maybe Nintendo should think of going mobile a bit, they are already very successful with the 3DS, so whats the harm in releasing a Pokemon Crush Saga game with microtransactions? If you can’t beat them kick them in the nuts.

Nintendo would make a killing, maybe this how they can finally make a Pokemon MMO? Fight against random people around the world and if your all your Pokemon is injured you can pay to have them heal immediately or wait five hours.
I don’t advocate microtransactions,DLC or effing Season passes but the reality is I’m in the minority here and if Nintendo wants to stick around they will have to rethink their business strategy a bit

Candy Crush isn’t a good game, it’s microtransaction robbery of stupid people. Comparing mobile apps to dedicated gaming machines isn’t really relevant either. It’s like comparing table top games to video games. Playing Nintendo games on mobile is a bad idea as well, not only due to the horrible control you get with a touchscreen but the pay to win model would ruin Nintendos credibility with core gamers.

I would like to know how many people see Candy Crush as a long term game? I don’t see it being something more than a footnote 10 years from now. Mario Kart 8, will of course be fondly remembered and still play amazingly (despite the online servers being shut down in 2022.)
