Believe it or not, but I love me some good PR. When you market a game right, everyone wins. There’s been some questionable PR stunts done in the past, and then there have been some awesome ones done to promote a game. And then you get something that sounds so bad that it’s actually genius. Pity the one that Capcom had in mind is getting yanked, because terrorisms.
Capcom UK had a dream. A goal. A vision. To promote Resident Evil Revelations launching on Friday, Capcom was going to take a swimming pool, empty it of chlorine, H20 and urine, and then refill it with fake blood according to Eurogamer. But wait! Its get better!
They were going to have zombie life guards on patrol, and mark several lanes in the pool with human intestines and brains. A diving board in the form of a human corpse had also been created, but thanks to a recent attack in South Easr London, it’s not going to happen.
A soldier in that section of the UK was killed, with a suspect then confessing that he did it because British soldiers had been killing Muslims on a daily basis. That’s a whole can of worms I don’t want to open. Condolences to those involved, but at the same time, I don’t want that having an impact on some cheesy gory marketing for a game.
It’s the equivalent of banning cows from your city because someone happens to be lactose intolerant. "In light of yesterday’s sad events we’re cancelling our Revelations pool event," read a statement from Capcom UK this morning issued through social networks. "Thank you for your understanding."
I’m pretty disappointed that Capcom UK isn’t going through with this spectacle. It would have been something to see.

It is the UK after all. People find things to complain about so it’s a good call I reckon. May actually work in their favour with the British folk…

Typical knee-jurk reaction. After 9/11 there were allot of things that were temporarily banned because they were offensive. Radio stations could not play “Leaving on a Jet Plane” and “Great Balls of Fire.” Video shops removed “Die Hard” from their shelves because the covered featured the top of a building exploding. Etc.
Whatever happens, no matter how tragic, there will always be loads of people out there who are not directly effected by it. Don’t ruin it for them by going overboard. Life needs to continue, and the sooner the better.
