Resident Evil 6 launches next week, and it’s taking the undead mayhem to a global scale. It’s hard to believe it, but the franchise has been around for quite a few years now, starting out as a PS One horror game that your parents were warned not to buy you, and evolving into the more action-packed spectacle that it is today. Out of all the games produced, many fans still consider the second Resident Evil to be the game that stays closest to the core concept of the franchise, and wouldn’t mind seeing a HD re-release of it. And Capcom might be up for that idea.

Speaking to Gamespot, Capcom’s Yoshiaki Hirabayashi said that a Resident Evil 2 remake was a distinct possibility, if interest was high enough that is. “If the fans really clamour for it; if there’s a groundswell of support for remaking that game, then I think that’s something Capcom would take under consideration,” Hirabayashi said.

And then Hirabayashi kicked that idea sqaurely in the HD nads, saying that no such project was in development right now. “Just to lay all the cards on the table, that way there’s no rumour-mongering or things like that, no, we are not working on a Resident Evil 2 remake as of now.”

Still, the idea is obviously there, and with Capcom being more than willing to ring a few extra bucks out of fans, it could be a solid concept in the future. I still remember going to a video store, renting a PS One and taking Resident Evil 2, completely unaware that I would spend the next couple of nights armed with a cricket bat and a fear for the dark.

Ah, good times, good times…

But as for the current Resident Evil game coming out, number six will be on store shelves on October 2nd, for PS3 and Xbox 360, with a PC version following later.
