Capcom on Dead Rising 2 DLC: “We Haven’t Completely Alienated PS3 Gamers”

It appears Capcom are trying to diffuse as much anger from PS3 owners as they possibly can after the announcement of the second 360 exclusive DLC pack for Dead Rising 2.

Speaking with Eurogamer, co-producer Shinsaku Ohara tried to defend the decision. “I think [Keiji] Inafune said that we’re sorry that it seems like you’re getting a little bit less of the Dead Rising 2 universe, but you’ll still be able to enjoy the full game.”

I’m not so sure how accurate that is, given the second DLC is an epilogue.

Rob Barrett, of Blue Castle Games, developer of Dead Rising 2, had this to add: “The game was completely designed to be a self-contained and enjoyable experience, beginning to end, regardless of the prologue and the epilogue.”

This sounds a little similar to the Prince of Persia 2008 mess where PC gamers didn’t get the epilogue, which finished up the story. Even though its a self-contained story, an epilogue will expand upon in some way.

In an earlier interview with Eurogamer, Ohara had the following to say on why the DLC exists: “Dead Rising was our very first Xbox 360 title and Microsoft supported the title all the way. At the beginning we didn’t know that this new IP would be a success, but the fans on the console really assisted in making it into one. So it’s like a present, something that we gave back to the original Dead Rising fans.”

Well, it seems its a gift that just keeps on giving since it has already sold 500,000 units.

What do you think, is this DLC totally auxiliary from the story, and a gift to the original’s fans, or will it deprive PS3 owners of narrative closure?

I was unlucky in that I bought the Dead Rising 2 DLC just before MS region-locked it which means I’ll never be able to download it completely (unless SA gets xbox live, which is presumably sometime in the future.. lol). Having contacted MS on my downloading issue, they’ve merely shrugged their shoulders and mumbled something about Live “not being available in my region”. That’s all good well, but still “Fuck You MS!”

As for where I stand with Capcom on this, let’s just say where I was going to get Dead Rising 2 for the PS3, I’m no longer going to bother. Congratulations Capcom, ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED: You have alienated James.

Yoh, that’s brutal :/. On the plus side, Live is coming to SA within the next few months IIRC.

It does suck that MS just blackballed you like that. I would have seriously tossed my toys if they happened to me.

AFAIK, the epilogue is one to Case Zero. It’s not an epilogue to the main game, so the folks on PS3 aren’t missing anything related to the main game.

At least they should be honest and just say hey MS gave us money. Then maybe ppl wouldnt be upset. Chances are this is timed though unless Capcom is really stupid. It would sell a hell of a lot on PSN.

It’s pretty clear that Capcom is trolling PS3 gamers, “Hey guys, you’re not reeeeaaaally getting less content, you are getting less content”.

By the way, I started playing Case Zero last night, after having had to resort to what is tantamount to fraud (thanks Microsoft), and I know the arguments are that it’s not really that significant of a prologue, but it fills in some of the backstory because you’re introduced to the new guy and his daughter, you find out why the small town fell, and why the military is inept, not to mention that my level 9 character can now be imported into the maingame.

I should say… would have, had Capcom not been a little whore. :getlost: Hey Capcom, here’s $5, you know what to do *unbuttons his pants*.

I’m actively boycotting this timed-exclusivity nonsense, and any company who would willingly prostitute themselves out to either Microsoft or Sony. Rockstar, you have been warned!
