Capcom’s been the subject of a lot of gamer ire of late – mostly a result of its policies regarding DLC. It’s something they did with Marvel vs Capcom 3 and more recently Street Fighter x Tekken that’s been getting gamer’s back ups; charging money for content that’s already on retail discs under the guise of DLC.
Capcom’s Capcom US boss Christian Svensson would like you to know that the company is re-evaluating how it handles it DLC in future.
“We would like to assure you that we have been listening to your comments and as such have begun the process of re-evaluating how such additional game content is delivered in the future, he said on the Capcom Unity blog. “As this process has only just commenced in the past month or so, there will be some titles, where development began some time ago and that are scheduled for release in the coming months, for which we are unable to make changes to the way some of their post release content is delivered,” he explained.
Unfortunately for those intent on purchasing Dragon’s Dogma, he’s confirmed that that game will include disc-locked content – as might some other Capcom games that are already well in to development.
“One such title is Dragon’s Dogma, where the decision to include some additional (but not all planned additional) game content for the game on disc was made at the beginning of the game’s development cycle as at the time this was determined to be the most efficient way of ensuring certain content was made available,” he said. “Owners of Dragon’s Dogma will be able to further their gameplay experience with the release of additional quests, weapons and other items in the months following the game going on sale.”
In future, Capcom won’t be charging you for content that’s already on the disc – but it won’t change much. All they’ll do is hold that content back and charge you for it anyway – as well as make you have to download it.
