Mass Effect Andromeda gaemplay 2

Mass Effect: Andromeda has been shown off a handful of times before now, and at least some of them have been teased as “first looks” at gameplay. But let’s be honest, we haven’t really seen Andromeda in action properly. At least, not until tonight, where BioWare rounded off The Game Awards with the first real showing of their next sci-fi RPG epic. And if you’ve been waiting patiently, this is the one bit of the show that you don’t want to miss.

Because there is a lot to miss if you decide to skip it. Not only do we get our first little peak into some classic exploration and dialogue (with Krogans!), the gameplay trailer flies through a host of Andromeda features. You’ve got open-world exploration in the new Nomad, followed up promptly by some incredible fast and dynamic combat (can you even call it cover-based shooting anymore?). It’s clear Andromeda is going to be action heavy, but with a really good mix of weapons and biotics making it in the fold.

I mean, did you see the Pathfinder just zipping around the battlefield like that? Biotics and tech will also feature heavily in the more traditional exploration mechanics, such as scanning wild life and outpost for resources to create more new stuff to scan other wildlife and outposts. Crafting is going to be a big part of Andromeda (as you’d expect), but BioWare is just scratching the surface of what’s on offer here.

And that’s great, because right now I think I’ve seen enough of what I want from Andromeda. Yes it’s the first bit of real gameplay, but these RPGs live and breathe off a sense of discovery. And if this little taste is anything to go by, there’s going to be a lot to look forward to next year.

I’ll probably only get it once it’s on sale, being EA and all XD
But it really does look incredibly interesting and being a huge sci-fi nut it has a lot of the things I’d want in a good sci-fi game.

Thing about ME trailers though is they are the one brand that has never lied in them. WYSIWYG.

except when they said that all our decisions made throughout the game would have a tangible effect on the outcome of the game.
But otherwise, yeah, trailers are usually quite reliable.

Never part of the trailers though. Bioware has lied to us a lot but the trailer were always either story trailer or actual unedited gameplay. No vertical slice post processing like so many Ubisoft/Other EA games. Hell even the Witcher 3 trailers were clearly “fixed up” and let us not even talk about Watch_Dogs.

I was sold but when the fighting started I was blown away. They removed the boring cover based shooting from a cover based shooter!

This is going to revolutionize how the game is played.

I considered signing up for origin access to get the 10% discount (seems that’s their plan), but on the deluxe edition that would still put me back R950. That’s nearly 2 tanks of petrol…….

That’s still R150 more expensive than a new game on any other other PC platform.

Yep. Can only buy the DLC with “Bioware Points”, which you buy separately and as far as I can see there’s no discounting. Unlike Steam where you can grab dlc for cheap on a sale.

Yea it is. I see if you buy ME Andromeda in USD it’s actually cheaper.

As much as I love Mass effect, I stay clear of games that I have paid for that still contain some form of micro-transactions. Even if its for aesthetics

microtransactions from ME3 where multiplayer based, same with dragonage, so i dont think theres much to worry about in that respect.

100% however when I played ME3 I did not have internet access so my experience was all offline which was cool. However with my PS4 and fibre I am now able to jam online so I am hoping that the m/player aspect is not m-transactioned. Maybe I am just being picky

biotic charge now works on vertical scale, so its actually a viable escape mechanism, awesome.
gun handling seems a bit rough and feels quite dragon ageish though, havent decided how I feel about that yet.
