It’s been a good few years since we last saw an Unreal Tournament. I sunk countless hours into the original and 2004 editions at LANs and even against bots, but skipped out on the third entry entirely for some reason. There’s a new iteration on the horizon, and you can finally get a proper glimpse at what it looks like.

This isn’t quite like the first gameplay video we saw. That was just a working, skeletal version of what the final game might look like. Things have sped up somewhat, and it looks like the next Unreal Tournament is finally taking shape.

The opening already smacked me with some nostalgia. Recognise the music? That’s Foregone Destruction, the theme for the classic CTF map, Facing Worlds. I’m happy to finally see some proper gameplay, although it does look a teeny bit slow to me by Unreal standards. Regardless, it is still early days and will more than likely be remedied during development.

What do you think, are you looking forward to this? I’m far too excited to dive back into some good old deathmatch with classic weapons like the shock rifle and the flak cannon.

YES! We need a modern quake 2. Quake 2 was excellent, I loved the atmosphere so much.

Holy crap, I have been following it for a while and playing around with the source in the UE4 editor, but this made me more excited than I have been in quite some time. I cant wait to play this again, now we just need dedicated servers and Lan, and we gentlemen have ourselves a game again!!!

I was running around in the editor having loaded one of the UT4 test maps. No textures on ANYTHING and very basic level design. I was all alone and there was NOTHING to do… So I ran around with the Flak cannon shooting at imaginary enemies almost killing myself as one does with the Flak cannon… I had more fun in those moments than I have had in any game since UT2004.
