SO SNEAKY

Snake was always the go-to guy when it came to stealth games in the 80s and 90s. In the early 2000s though, gamers were introduced to Sam Fisher in Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell. To me, he mirrored Snake in many ways, except that he replaced boxes with green, three-eyed goggles and stuck to the shadows more religiously. The series has become successful and well established, garnering its own mass of fans. Some decided to make their own film using the sneaky protagonist.

It’s about 7 minutes long, and well worth a gander if you’re a fan yourself (via Kotaku)

The Splinter Cell’ is a live-action short set in the past that follows the early years of the franchise lead as he becomes the titular hero. Before the game stories, before the modern times, and before Third Echelon: There was only a man. Sam Fisher.

It amazes me what people are capable of with just a shoestring budget (ie, not millions of dollars). The minds behind the piece above is Atomic Productions, and I think they’ve done a great job.

In completely related news, there is a legit Splinter Cell movie in the works, with Tom Hardy filling the silent shoes of Sam Fisher. Let’s hope it’s not complete hogwash, which is what game-to-movie adaptions tend to be. Not all… but most (HOW DO YOU MAKE A MAX PAYNE FILM THAT BAD?)

  1. I have yet to see a movie adopted from a game that has anything remotely to do with said game:-

Excellent piece, could be a full fledged movie, but the story must go beyond USA heroics vs. Russia.
It’s too beat up and old a plot, so opposite to the truth.
