I logged into my inbox this morning and saw a little message from Gameservers.com, which had a subject line of “GameServers.com – South Africa has Call of Duty Black Opsâ€.
Cast your minds back and you’ll remember we mentioned the exclusivity deal between Activision and Gameservers.com, which means all dedicated servers for COD: Black Ops need to be rented through the server providing company. We then briefly lamented the fact that there was no South Africa supported by their “worldwide network†and then became sulky brats bemoaning our misfortune.
A few weeks later we pointed you towards a Gameservers.com “request a location†form. There was a massive drive from local gamers and our persistent nagging and spamming of the Gamerservers.com website has paid off! Here’s the full email from Gameservers, which I’m sure many of you who requested South African support will receive as well.
Dear Gamer,
GameServers.com is proud to announce that we have just opened availability for Call of Duty Black Ops game servers in South Africa. These servers are available on a first come first serve basis so if you wish to purchase a server at this location, please reserve your server early!
http://www.gameservers.com/blackops/
Additional locations will be announced via:Â http://twitter.com/gameservers_com
See? All it takes is a swift kick to apathy’s nuts and our local gaming scene can do some pretty awesome stuff.

Sorry for the noob Q!
But what exactly does this mean for console gamers?
Will we be able to play COD: Black Ops MP without lagging all over the place?

that sux!
I thought it was for consoles as well…how does these things work, why cant it be consoles as well?!
I know they obviously need different servers but, seriously, why dont they cater for that as well…Its, like a selling a car with only 2 wheels..or 1 wheel for that matter.

Well actually even PC gamers are going to be sad once they realise that Mweb block local transit routes for ISP’s which don’t use open free peering.
So if Telkom is your ISP then you will have international latency even though the servers are local.
Before you get angry with Mweb it’s actually a great move for the country. Free peering is the future. It’s cheaper at the moment to route traffic internationally (in some cases) than to do it locally. Phone telkom/mtn/vodacom to complain!

Or just move to mweb 😉

Exactly! Other ISP’s have started peering openly.

So when I get my xbox version of Black Ops, will I be able to play online, or am I going to lag like crazy?

How many people actually read the article?
THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH CONSOLES. STOP BEING RETARTED.

Errr just getting to the mweb thing.. Im unfortunately one of those users. The latency went through the roof for me yesterday when they decided to hit the little red button. And while it is great for the industry as a whole. I was getting fragged before an enemy was even in my view… not good AT ALL for gamers.
Frankly, mweb just lost me as a client cause of their billing dept, latency and general “screw you” attitude to gamers.

Just heard via megarom that mweb will be hosting the server. LOL that might mean anyone not on mweb and seriously cant live without the MP, u better move to MWEB or one of their “partners”

It has nothing to do with being a nerd at all. It is the decency of reading the comments before posting.
I answered your previous question about this exact same thing.
Noob questions are perfectly fine.

My bad for not seeing your response to my previous Q.
No need for the “RETARDED” comment though…

but if you think about it if everyone has international latency, since most ppl use telkom, etc. everyone should have more or less the same latency and therefor have the same “lag” issues.. it sorst itself out in the end! you’ll get that 1 guy who usses mweb though and PAWNS everyones asses off but will eventually be labelled a hacker of some sort!!

Yea Im busy playing Black Ops on xbox live, and the lag is freakin annoying, I sit in the Yellow bar (2 bars) all the time compared to the other Full Green (4 bars)players.
I have a 4meg unshaped account and it doesnt make a difference, I really hope Treyarch and Activision can fix this, cause right now Im not getting my moneys worth!!

@ bro
Migrating to the SA Live didnt do diddly squat…
The lag is still the same (Even when changing the Game Setup to look for local only), its playable but you know its there.

Nope! All servers are P2P, so you’re still dependent on some kid in Norway (with fast internet) playing the host.
