Codemasters acquires Project Cars developer Slightly Mad Studios

If you had a quick gander at some of the best racing games of the last decade, it’d be easy to pick a bunch from the Codemasters and Slightly Mad Studios library. Between the two of them, they’ve cracked out some of the finest racing experiences on console and PC, games which blur the line between accessible hop-in racing fun and technically polished simulators of motorsport.

Codemasters is easily the larger of the two, and they’re about to get even bigger as they just snapped up the Project Cars developer for a cool $30 million. “We are delighted to bring such an incredible racing game developer to the Codemasters family, and this unequivocally establishes us as a global powerhouse in the development of racing titles,” said Frank Sagnier, Chief Executive Officer at Codemasters in a press release.

We share the same passion and vision and our new partnership will accelerate our growth. With more streaming services coming to market and the next generation of games consoles due in 2020, this is the perfect time for Codemasters to take its next step.

According to the deal via GamesIndustry, Bell will still be in charge of Slightly Mad as they happen to have a trio of projects in the pipeline right now: Project Cars Go for mobile devices, an original IP and a rumoured Fast ‘n Furious game.
