magic cards the gathering

There’s going to be all kinds of games at rAge this weekend. Sports, action, racing and various other sub-genres will be present, but not every such gaming experience will be one that involves sweaty controllers. Magic The Gathering will be present, and if you’ve ever wondered how to tap some cards and lay down some hurt, here’s your chance to learn how to play the game, get tips from experts and most importantly, have fun.

Everyone who takes part in the MTG demonstration at rAge, is going to net themselves a free “learn how to play Magic crash course” set of cards, 30 such cards that come with an instructional CD as well. There’ll be demonstrators on hand, who’ll be there just to show you the ins and outs of the game.

And if that gets you hooked, don’t forget that there’ll be booster decks and all sorts of cards on sale as well. In fact, take part in the intro course at rAge, and you’ll net yourself a 20% discount voucher for any Magic 2013 intro pack, purchased at the BT Games stand.

Also, there’ll be puh-rizes present, in the form of raffles and giveaways, including a chance to win a limited edition From the Vault: Realms set of cards. Dammit Garth, stop drooling on the screen.

Buy one R2R Booster Box at the BT stand, remember to hand in your slip with your name, phone number and email details on it, and you’ll get entered into the draw to win one of two Ravnica booster boxes on Friday and Saturday, while Sunday will have a winner drawn for the From the Vault: Realms + Deckbuilders Toolkit.

Tournaments

Seasoned players, get your cards out, because this year, there’s some duelling to do. There’ll be tournaments taking place, and of course some prizes to go to the winners as well. New players, don’t forget to take part as well, as the tournament is open to anyone with a deck of cards. Here’s the timetable for the table-top throwdown:

Tournament Schedule:

Friday:

11:00 – 16:00: Sealed Return to Ravnica Tournament (R300 entrance/person – Includes 5 Return to Ravnica boosters and 1 Guild specific booster)

Sounds like fun, right? Keep a look out for Garth, who will be hanging around playing a game or two. I’ might also pop in, to challenge him to a game, just so that I can see him explode when I take out my deck of Yu Gi Oh cards after he sets the table up.
