Confirmed! South African Forza Consumers Shafted by Microsoft!

1 min read

Remember last week how we surmised that, like Gears of War 2, the locally distributed copies of Forza Motorsport 3 might be shipped without the codes for the day one DLC extra cars?

Turns out we were right! Kalahari has confirmed with Microsoft South Africa’s John Press that any additional content – such as extra cars and the like – that has anything to do with Xbox Live  will  be missing from the Forza 3 Limited Edition, effectively removing any incentives to buy the game new.

A quick look at the local 360 forum reveals the general acrimony this has been met with, evidenced by many people cancelling their pre-orders, or boycotting the game entirely.

I’ve often said that Xbox Live is the superior online service, but without any official local support, even my commendation is faltering.

While Microsoft sees us unfit to have Xbox live – and the associated bonuses that come with it – they should at least include a jar of lube with Forza 3. It would make the shafting we’re getting just a little less painful.

ok, so to clarify, does this extend to the “LE” cars aswell?
cause i know the limited ed is supposed to have 10 or so extra cars, and then the classic cars aswell.

To clarify, you will get NO FREE DLC cars with either edition of the game. NOTHING.

your heading should have been –

No Forza 3 DLC – for NON live supported coutries.

as it is not just us.

this is a response to plasma from microsoft
    Hello Plasma280,

We appreciate your feedback and value your opinion.
Unfortunately Live related content cannot be included with XBox consoles in countrys that do not support XBox Live.

    Microsoft se Poes.

We’ll just order by other means, take more money away from the economy, and shaft the poor local retailers who as it seems to be more and more often the case, are not the ones actually pushing the prices.

If the product wasn’t this good, I would just do without.

Yes, it’s an intrinsic part of the game.

So no LE cars, and also no Day 1 DLC pack (the one with classic cars and additional tracks?)

This is the most pathetic thing I’ve EVER heard of. Definately cancelling my order. If this content was multiplayer only content (like a map pack in GoW2 for example) I MIGHT understand their reasoning, but this is just additional content and can be used in offline mode as well.

I wonder what the local retailers are going to say about this. Many of them have put up the LE up for pre-order. Not worth buying the game until it becomes cheaper :cwy:

I’m really upset by this because we requested a comment from Microsoft SA about this issue and we were flat ignored. Now the news is leaking out of forums and things like that, hardly better for them.

A thread was made on the official Forza 3 forums and was locked very quickly. Seems they have no sympathy and don’t care either.

Not so sure about that pure local retailer comment. Seems they’re in on the Astroglide action.I came across a disti pricelist recently where new titles were advertised at R410 with a RRP of R599. So a respectable 50% marku[ for the retailer. Imagine my surprise when I walked into my local Xbox retailer of the year to see it adverised for R699. We get shafted from all end I’m afraid – maybe after government sorts out the Cell Phone operators they’ll give us gamers a break too

Problem is – they locked it now but in 3 weeks they will have a lot of complaints from “non-sa” non-live countries like greece etc when they find out that all non-live countries will not get this.

Does the console packaging still carry live branding?

Its not easy to just jump ship to the PS3. The 360 has got other exclusives with release dates like Splinter Cell Conviction and Alan Wake.

So much for cheaper bandwith in S.A! Only one ISP has adsl at R29 per gig. Still, we hav to pay R152 per month for a line.
Forza 3 is a good game. I don’t think 10 less ‘old cars’ and 2 less test tracks would make it worser. Theres still 400 cars and 100 tracks. But not getting free stuff and paying more than other countries is frustrating. The game is not worth it at its current price.

Oh and on a side note, this debacle is giving the Forza 3 250gb Super Elite bundle a bad reputation. I wonder if the bundle would carry the Live logo.

Once again Microsoft skrew us over. To anyone thinking of getting an X-Box, my advice is DONT!

Microsoft Launch a product in SA, claiming Live will follow, here we are, like 4 years later, and We’re not only still waiting for it, we’re also getting skrewed in the process.

F*uK you microsoft, I’m making it my personal mission to convince potential x-Box buyers to move to the PS3 instead.

    Hi,

Please take note of the direct response from MicrosoftSA:

    ——–

Forza Motorsport 3 limited collector’s edition for the South African market does not contain any of the downloadable elements found in the version advertised on international websites & where the Live service is available . The DLC is not promoted locally and all retailers selling this product have been made aware of this far in advance of launch .Live has not launched in South Africa at this point and as a result downloadable content which relies on users having legitimate access to the service is excluded from the content of the collector’s edition .

Legislation and a ruling by the Advertising Standards Authority prevents us from utilizing Live branding on local versions of the game until such time as the service is available in country . The inclusion of Live branding and Live related content would imply that the service is available locally and could be construed as being misleading .

Forza 3 is a best in class racing title and the inherent features and options found in both the core and Limited collectors editions will provide one of the best racing experiences ever encountered on a next gen console .
