Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild Cooking

Monster Hunter is one of those popular franchises that I just can’t get into. I enjoy watching my hairier half play, but it just doesn’t make me want to pick up a controller and join him. Not that I can anyway since it’s usually on 3DS. Anyway, considering its massive appeal, it’s no wonder that the latest Zelda is looking to borrow certain elements from it, and I’m happy that seems to be the cooking aspect.

Eurogamer got to play the game at E3, and they browsed through various YouTubers who got to do the same. Much as Alessandro explained to us in his E3 preview, the franchise feels new again in Zelda: Breath of the Wild. One aspect where this is the case is when it comes to healing – gone are the days of cutting grass to fill that HP; now players will need to hunt, gather and cook in order to survive. But it goes beyond HP.

Much like Monster Hunter before it, Breath of the Wild will contain certain areas where the temperature is too hot or cold for Link to withstand on his own. As such, he’ll have to craft cooling or warming potions to give him temporary immunity to the climate.

Darryn even thinks the visuals have a certain Monster Hunter vibe to them. I only think it looks like that franchise in the scenes where we get a fly-over view of the terrain, but you are certainly welcome to disagree with me, or Darryn, or both of us.

I actually haven’t played a Zelda game in a long time. I loved the older games, and the new ones also seem fantastic, although I do get tired of riding around on my horse hither and yon all the time. This iteration feels like a really fresh take on the franchise, and is getting me excited to jump into Link’s boots again.
