It goes without saying that every time there’s a new generation of consoles, the sales numbers increase on the previous one. There are more people on earth, more gamers, and more people willing to part with cold-hard cash. And if Pachter’s right, about one and a half million people are set to do just that when the PS4 launches.

Speaking in an Episode of GameTrailers’ Bonus Round, Pachter says that Sony’s got the right sort of problem with the PS4; high demand.

“The only thing they’re gonna have a problem with is supply disruption. That million preorders they talked about, which I understand now is up to one and a half million, that’s a lot of consoles,” he said.

“That tells you that there’s not going to be a lot of boxes behind the first million and a half, so there’s going to be supply shortages.”

Pachter also believes Sony’s marketing strategies with the PS4 to date have been “pretty flawless.” One and a half million hardware units pre-ordered is pretty phenomenal, and while obviously not all of those will be fulfilled, a great many will end up in homes. That also doesn’t account for the folk who walk in to stores at launch expecting to find the hardware for sale.

It could end up with the PlayStation 4 being one of the most sold-through consoles at launch. The Wii, for example, managed to sell through 600 000 units in its US launch week, with a further 400 000 sold in Japan before stock constraints stopped the sales flow, and a further 325 000 in European regions. The PS4’s pre-orders already eclipse those numbers.

I honestly don’t think the Xbox One will do those sort of numbers when it launches later this year. there’s still too much negativity in the general public consensus; though it’s slowly, slowly going away and more people seem keen to embrace Microsoft’s console. Is the Xbox One even still a contender? Honestly, if I was in the US I’d have a really difficult decision to make. The Xbox one is starting to look more appealing, mostly thanks to its launch-period games. Dead Rising 3 interests me far, far more than Killzone: Shadow Fall. Plus, Titanfall.

Have you pre-ordered a PS4? Are you one of those 1.5 million?

The PlayStation 4 is being released in North America on November 15. We’ll be getting it here just a month later, on December 13.

Hopefully more info coming end of this month. I was told that 85% of all next-gen pre-orders are PS4, so patcher might be right for a change.

The bile is strong for the Xbone…

It also doesn’t help that their PR has been so inept. This is a situation where Microsoft needs to reel in the usual suspects, muzzle them for a bit, and rethink their strategy, because whenever Whatsisface Otherjacket or Agent StillwithSony (Kaz’s undercover agent :p ) speak, I just want to set my xbox 360 alight.

They really have a negative effect on me… and I’m not a violent guy, but damnit man… #shakesFist

I don’t think M$ will compete with $ony at launch due to:
    a) pricing
    b) timing (no 1yr lead time this gen)
    c) general negativity from the hardcore gamer

Really did enjoy a little hands on time with Forza at rAge and that new controller is wicked cool and feels a generation ahead of the DS4. It’s not just controllers that sell a console though.

Hahahah not me or my gaming buddies.

Just from casually chatting to the lads on my xbl list, it seems that almost all of them are heading to PS4. Whether they’ll get a bone afterwards, depends on whether local xbox live is still going to be kak or not.

Oh, I thought Tidycpc was referring to the release of the Xbone. My bad. 🙂

It seems like only the Xbox fanboys are sticking to the One as their first (and/or only) choice. Not judging though. If the tables were turned, I would’ve stuck with the PS, just because I prefer the exclusives.

Dead Rising 3 does look amazing, but I worry that it might be too much of a departure from Dead Rising 1. While I’ve admitted that DR3 leaves a stirring in my nether regions, I’m going to wait till after the game is released. There’s too much we don’t know about it.

I’m still not sure if I’ll be getting a next-gen console anytime soon. Current gen has so much to offer still.

Also, if Destiny will be on PC, I’ll most probably upgrade my PC for that and Star Citizen. After about 2 or 3 years, I’ll get a PS4, like I did with the current gen.

Anyway, glad Sony is doing good, competition is always welcome and I can’t even begin to comprehend how shit it would be if MS had a monopoly on the console market.

lol this comment section has turned into a joke. You MS fanboys cannot find a valid reason to criticise the flawless PS4, so you desperately go for the silly stuff comparing the controller to a dildo and claiming the camera will be more invasive than Kinect. How can it be more invasive if you don’t buy one. No spycam means no spycam. The PS4 controller is a brilliant design. Much better than the 19860’s Star Trek controller on the XB1 that does not even match the big boxy console. I hope you guys put a brick on top of that console, because it’s gonna take off when that huge fan kicks in to cool the overheating.

My PS4 is pre-ordered. You lot deserve the XB1 so go and buy it as punishment …lol

this is the reason xbox one is better, yes it comes with the kinect 2, but the reason for this is the crazy ass things you can do with it plus it dose more than just motion sensing, it also can be incorporated into games like cod and bf4 as far as voice commands which makes us more entertained and thats what we ant isnt it? everything else is basically the same about the systems the kinect gives opportunities to improve further into gaming were ps4 is an upgraded ps3 LOLOL

There is no “general public consensus” about anything… The “general public” barely knows there is new consoles coming out next month.. the “consensus” was ONLINE tech people.. “hardcore” gamers..etc. As we get closer to general public awareness, the Xbox One actually seems to be gaining much more ground compared to the PS4. I would still think on price along, PS4 should take this holiday season (beating XBox One)… but we might be surprised.

yea sony actually said that after the preorders go out they might actually make you buy their camara also just like xbox so honestly if ps4 dose take the sales it will go downhill fast, they are loosing $60 dollars a console right now
