Could we be seeing a GTA movie? Take-Two says maybe.

As much as I usually shudder at the idea of a film adaption of a game, Take-Two reckons that a GTA film may prove lucrative. Speaking at the BMO Capital Markets Technology and digital media conference, Take-Two president Karl Slatoff said this about the subject of a film adaption:

“If you’re going to invest in a movie — you can make a lot of money on movies — but as a licensor, you’ve got to look at what the success rate is, what the movie has to do for you to generate substantial economics that are worth taking the risk.”

All very sensible stuff. It begs the question on what Take-Two would lose given the very real possibility that it’s an awful film. As the owners of a billion dollar grossing GTA 5, they aren’t exactly light on funds, luckily for us. Would it even benefit them at all? Slatoff provided some insight on what he thinks:

“So if it’s a bad movie, does that hurt your franchise or not? So there is always a balance that has to be struck there. But obviously, we consider those inbound requests. We take those inbound requests. So it’s something we consider at this point, but again it’s not core to what we do.”

In my opinion, a GTA film has the potential to make, if anything, a huge amount of money. The controversy alone surrounding the franchise will put butts in seats. Whether or not it’ll be anything other than a decent action/crime film is left to be seen. If I were Take-Two down the line, I’d just go silly with it and do a cross over film of every GTA protagonist ever, possibly even machinima style! Damn it, now they’ve got me thinking..

Well, Considering that antics of Trevor and has loveable psychotic ways, I think it could work. But it is a bad Idea considering the stigma around the franchise. Very good Character in my opinion. The Oscars should have a Category for best in game character,I know, It sound stupid, But Trevor ruled in GTA5.

Just take the car chase aspects of Fast and Furious, with the action moments from HEAT… and you got yourself a GTA movie. If you watch any heist movies or one where the “hero” is trying to get thru a bad situation, you’re watching what a GTA movie potentially would look like. Now someone just has to convince Take-Two that they’d make a ton of money off of it and could tie it into a GTA V expansion like San Andreas or Vice city was.

This wouldnt be good to be honest. It would just end up like a typical heist type movie.
