Crackdown, Scalebound skipping E3 for Gamescom

Scalebound

E3 is literally around the corner, and Microsoft is set to kick things off on Monday as they have for years now. Xbox head honcho Phil Spencer has expressed numerous times that this year’s conference is all about first-party exclusives – leading many to believe that we’d get first looks at games like Scalebound and Crackdown. That’s not going to be the case.

While both of those exclusives might still be at the show, Spencer has revealed that they will only properly get some time in the spotlight at Gamescom in August. Speaking about E3 on Xbox Wire, Spencer stated that Microsoft’s E3 line-up is just too full – and it wouldn’t be fair to give the games less attention than they deserved.

E3 is just the beginning. Over the next few weeks and months, we’ll be sharing many more of our plans for 2015 and beyond. Having a jam-packed lineup of games to show at E3 means that there simply isn’t enough time to give each of our upcoming titles its well-deserved time in the spotlight. We’ve decided to save some of our most eagerly-awaited future titles for Gamescom in August. Rest assured that titles like Crackdown, Quantum Break and Scalebound will be front and centre at Gamescom along with new game reveals for both Xbox One and Windows 10.

So if Crackdown and Scalebound are being pushed to the side for Gamescom, what’s going to be at E3? Well aside from any surprise new IPs, Microsoft has already confirmed showings for Halo 5, Forza 6, Rise of the Tomb Raider and, most importantly, the new Gears of War. I suspect a lot of time will also be spent detailing new Windows 10 features for the Xbox One, as well as touches on Oculus VR and Hololens.

Ninety minutes flies by very quickly, so I can understand the desire to push some reveals back a little to avoid over-saturation. This is easily Xbox’s strongest first-party line-up in years, and Spencer doesn’t want anyone to miss a beat of it. Still, no Crackdown makes me rather sad inside.

So to paraphrase, they’re not showing the most-anticipated games to show the games no one really cares about. KIDDING.

So now MS conference going to be the same as every other one they did. Scalebound and Crackdown was the freshest things they had. Phantom Dust is dead so all they have is their usual same old IPs….

      Gears yes. Everything else, meh.

I was really looking forward to seeing more of Scalebound. Still, if MS said E3 was about NEW IP then maybe we’re actually in for a real surprise? Don’t want to get my hopes up though.

Edit: They said First Party exclusives, not new IP’s. Looks like you’re right on the money then.

“We should have new exclusive IP at E3. I’m trying to make this E3 more about 1st party than past E3s.”

Fair enough, but “should have” doesn’t exactly strike me with confidence that they’re lining them up. I hope they deliver though.

I agree with you, was also very keen to find out more about Scalebound.. bit of a let down. MS never said it was all going to be about new IP though.. they said it will focus on first party.

Maybe everybody should just skip E3 since GamesCom seems to be the better videogames conference these days.
