When I’m playing a game, I generally get so absorbed that I can’t respond to simple questions like “how are you?” or “why aren’t you in the kitchen?”. But some people are chatty gamers, and like to talk to friends while playing games, even if those friends are playing different games. Those getting a PS4 will be able to do just that.
Sid Shuman, manager of Social Media as Sony Computer Entertainment, confirmed cross-game party chat. In the comments section of a blog post about Killzone: Shadow Fall, Shuman replied to a question about cross-game and party chat:
Party Voice Chat will support up to 8 players on PS4, like PS Vita.
This means that people in your party chat room can all chat, whether they’re using the PS4 to play Killzone or Knack, or watching a video/listening to music. As long as the party people are logged into PSN, up to 8 people can happily talk to their heart’s content.
Great news for all the chatty Cathys who want to talk to each other regardless of which game they’re playing. But please, don’t invite me to your party chat – I will just be grunting non-committal sounds until you go away.

Hahah, love the “STFU” tag. Exactly how I feel. I’m glad the PS4 finally supports it, but I’ll be muting a lot of people!

I rather enjoy chatting while playing esp online.. Keeps things interesting. Not too sure about if in different games, but each to their own I suppose.

PC’s have had this functionality for years. Mumble, Teamspeak, Ventrilo, RaidCall, Skype. Those are just the ones I use, I’m sure there are others. Also, 8 max? Wow.
Sorry consoles but – Master Race, we be having it!

You know what the funny thing is? I spent my entire weekend playing on my Xbox instead of my PC – because that’s what I felt like doing. But it’s a valid point – PC have had this cross-anything chat for a long, long time. I mean, I can be busy coding a new website while talking to my friend who’s playing Guild Wars, and another who’s jamming Battlefield, while a 3rd is just browsing the internet to kill some time. And we’ll be having a blast. This isn’t news.
Didn’t expect so many downvotes, but I think I’ll survive. At least after a few sessions with a very expensive shrink.

I am currently at the gargoyles, and for the love of F#ck I can’t beat them. I lost my humanity the first time I died by their hands, so now I can’t even summon my allies to help me. That game will be the end of me

Just takes some patience, once you learn their movements it’s just a matter of picking your spot to attack, then back to defense until the next opening. Getting the Drake sword from the Dragon on the bridge helps a lot too.

That is done by shooting the tale of the Dragon a million times, right? O man, that game sucks up so many hours, but I can’t put it down.

Nah, not a million times, just aim for the line. Shouldn’t take you more than 10 minutes.

Yeah, that happened to me a few times as well. I mean I like chatting to folks every once in a while, but not every single gaming session lol!

Same, when I’m in a chatty mood, I’ll chat a way, but sometimes all you want is that peace and quiet that only immersing yourself in a game can provide.

I always got around this limitation on PS3 by dusting off teamspeak or sometimes Skype, but generally I’m not really a chatterbox online. When I’m in the zone, racking up the kills and taking names, the last thing I want to do is talk to people.
Yes… I am probably anti-social… Yes… I probably should go on medication, but when you’re in the ZONE.. you’re in the ZONE!

That wont help me one bit. Sometimes I get so engrossed in a game I cant even hear my girlfriend speaking, next to me. And then there is trouble.
