It’s more than a month until the game hits stores, but Crytek’s anticipated sci-fi shooter, but already Crysis 2 is available for illicit download from the internet’s seedy underbelly.

The leaked version of the game is beta, but playable from start to finish, and contains multiplayer – along with the master keys used to unlock the game’s copy protection. Naturally, the developers are disappointed.

“Crytek has been alerted that an early incomplete, unfinished build of Crysis 2 has appeared on Torrent sites,” said EA to Kotaku.. “Crytek and EA are deeply disappointed by the news. We encourage fans to support the game and the development team by waiting and purchasing the final, polished game on March 22.”

“Crysis 2 is still in development and promises to be the ultimate action blockbuster as the series’ signature Nanosuit lets you be the weapon as you defend NYC from an alien invasion. Piracy continues to damage the PC packaged goods market and the PC development community.”

Pirates, as usual, have justified their nefarious ways by blaming their thievery away with poor excuses like lack of a PC beta, inflated game prices and the same sort of rhetorical drivel they always do. There is a very real possibility that Crytek, one of the few remaining champions of PC gaming, might begin withdrawing their support as a result. For developers console gaming is much more lucrative,  and though the threat of console piracy is very real, it’s much more troublesome for end users. Of course, those PC gamers scratching their hair under their tinfoil hats would say that Crytek themselves leaked the game, so they could blame this instance on their eventual shift towards console game development.

Crysis 2 will be available in South Africa for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 on March 25.
