Peter Molyneux’s ridiculous tap-happy social experiment “curiosity: what’s inside the cube’ has entered its last phase, with fewer than 50 layers remaining. Molyneux reckons that the cube will spill its life-changing secrets on May 21…which happens to coincide nicely with next-generation Xbox reveal.
Could the whole thing have just been some sort of elaborate Xbox marketing? Probably not, but it’s nice to speculate.
“Tim (Rance, 22 Cans’ CTO) has done an analysis of probability and that’s where the probability comes out,” Molyneux said. “It’s just pure luck! I suppose the conjecture of there being something to do with the Xbox in the middle would be on everyone’s minds.
“If I give any clues then the amazing fact that it hasn’t leaked out – because I’m just such a blabber mouth – it would be such a shame if that was the case.”
Funnily enough, Molyneux has teased that he could be involved in the Xbox reveal in some way, though he probably won’t be on stage.
“There’s this opportunity that’s come up for me to be involved – it’s not from Microsoft by the way – in the Xbox announcement, and I’m probably going to take up that opportunity,” he told Eurogamer.
“I’m sworn to secrecy here. It should be really good fun, and maybe slightly contentious.”
Could the power of the next Xbox and its updated Kinect actually make that intriguing Milo and Kate demonstration a real game? Whatever Molyneux’s involvement, it’ll likely all just be promises, promises and more promises – none of which we’ll actually see fulfilled.
