Current-gen Watch Dogs isn’t gimped

Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs is an incredible, next-generation open-world experience. It’s coming to Next gen consoles and Pc – but it’ll also be available on the current systems. some people are rightly concerned that they might be getting an inferior version of the game on the current-gen systems. Ubisoft would like to allay those fears.

In a blogpost about ‘The secrets behind watch dogs’ next gen experience’, Ubisoft said the core content and mechanics would be unchanged between generationally different versions.

“We knew we would have next-gen hardware coming out before we ship,” Dominic Guay says “But we started off knowing we wanted to support PS3 and Xbox 360.

On current-gen systems we may need to cut down the number of people on the street a little, but it’s still the same game. You don’t get the same sense of the crowd, but it allows us to scale certain bits and keep the same experience.”

Instead, the next-generation version will just add a lot of shiny features- so while the core experience will be the same, the actual experience, how alive everything feels won;t be.

“Players are going to know they aren’t getting a bad experience if they play Watch Dogs for the current gen, but the next gen is the real HD experience. You can zoom in another level. You can have better shaders, better simulation on the wind or the water, more particles, better atmospherics… Basically anything you can get with more computing power.”

“So have no fear if you plan on playing Watch Dogs on the PS3 or 360. There are no trimmed-down mechanics to make you feel as though you are missing out on the core experience.

“Watch Dogs is truly a next-gen game – not just in terms of offering cutting edge graphical performance on the next generation of consoles, but also when it comes to the gameplay, the immersion and the seamless online experience. And that’s due in large part to a great foundation: the Disrupt Engine.”

Are you grabbing Watch dogs for current systems – or will you be waiting out the next-generation versions?

I’m waiting for all the DLC to be released, THEN I’ll think about it.

My thoughts as well, but I will probably not because of UPlay – or whatever Ubisoft’s PC application is called.

Allot of you guys on here hugely dislike Uplay and Origin 🙂 I know its a pain having separate game launchers/managers but that’s about where the pain ends ? When I want to play Far Cry 3 I don’t mind launching Uplay and same with Origin and BF3

It’s all obligatory bloatware to me. It offers no value outside of its publisher’s own games.

Definitely, but to not play a game because of it ?… Seems a little extreme…

I won’t skip the game, the bloatware is a factor I consider when choosing a platform. I will probably PS3/PS4 it.

As long as you PS4 it 😉 Not PS3

Probably will, but I’m trying to postpone the PS4 purchase until next year, so the wait will make it harder to do so.

Ye me too, so I will definitely get it on PC. Waiting to play The Division is going to be difficult though if they don’t bring it out on PC

Ubisoft will assess Watch Dogs’ sales on PC – if it does well they will surely release The Division on the platform also.

If i want to play Far Cry 3, I have to first launch Steam, then launch Far Cry 3, then wait for Uplay to launch and only then does Far Cry start up. That right there is a little extreme no?

Ye ok I didn’t purchase my Far Cry 3 through Steam. I understand if that’s the process it can be very frustrating

If i knew this before I bought Far Cry 3 I would have bought it straight from Uplay. The whole reason I went to Steam was to avoid having to install another game manager. Having this software forced down my throat really gets on my nerves. O fyi if u buy GTA IV through Steam you still have to install Games For Windows Live for it to back up your save games to the cloud……….

Ja, same for Dark Souls on PC. Then it keeps deleting your saves.

It’s enough to drive you to piracy, I’d rather pirate my games and upload my save games to my own cloud drive.

So Ubisoft sends a mail says change your password. I do it. Now with the new password I can log into the website and into Uplay, but Uplay will refuse to go online.

I’ve never experienced issues with Uplay, maybe I’m just one of the lucky ones. Then again I don’t use it very often
