Cyberpunk 2077 wants to create an identity of freedom with its design and music

If I had one takeaway from seeing Cyberpunk 2077 in action at E3 this year, it was that the game had a very non-linear structure to its design. Whatever your mission at hand or the task set in front of you, Cyberpunk 2077 focuses on the choices that you can select to make your journey that much more memorable. That’s the real driving force behind Cyberpunk 2077, as Story Team Writer Stanisław Święcicki explained to Official PlayStation Magazine via WCFTech how the game’s identity would lie in its ability to deliver different paths of interaction towards the player:

For me, the most prominent thing is the motive of freedom and identity, of deciding your own path. It’s a human need to seek an identity and some people gravitate towards the gangs, and so they look modified they’re still human underneath. This touches upon a universal feeling we all have, the need to belong to a group.

That extends to every facet of the game, including even the music. Over on Reddit, the idea behind the melody of mayhem that powers the audio of Cyberpunk 2077 was also revealed, as CD Projekt RED described the score for the game as an amalgamation of “raw, dirty and synthesized” sound:

We’re marrying “Cyber” with “Punk” – these are our two main pillars for music direction. “Cyber” centers around sonic texture of the score – our sound palette is raw, dirty, synthesized, sometimes even futuristic. “Punk” is all about the attitude of music – rebellious, ballsy and impulsive. Night City shimmers with colors and so is the music – we’re not limiting ourselves to one specific genre. Instead, we’re drawing from all sorts of styles to craft a unique mix that drives the narrative and provides additional layers of context to the story.

So weird story to add here: I want to make the Cyberpunk 2077 Samurai jacket. I have legitimately begun researching it, and thanks to fellow prop builders I’ve even managed to track down the perfect base jacket with which to add a layer of LEDs that light up. This will of course, all go horribly wrong when I attach the right batteries to the inside of the highly flammable jacket, but dammit it’ll totally be worth it.

I’ve got until an undetermined release date in the near future for when Cyberpunk 2077 finally releases. Hopefully, the burns on my thumbs will have healed by then.

  1. With what they did on TW3 soundtrack i trust Cyberpunk’s music score to be epicly good.
