Dark Souls 2 PC requirements won’t slay your hardware

dark souls 2

Now correct me if I’m wrong, but Dark Souls has never been the prettiest of games. It’s always looked good enough, with the gameplay being the most important part of the package. Crazy, I know, but that’s the kind of game Dark Souls is. And the sequel looks like it’ll keep that trend running.

Here’s the kind of hamster wheels that your PC will need on the inside to run the game:

Minimum

  • OS: Windows XP SP3, Windows Vista SP2, Windows 7 SP1, Windows 8
  • Processor: AMD Phenom II X2 555 3.2Ghz or Intel Pentium Core  2 Duo E8500 3.17Ghz
  • Memory: 2 GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 9600GT, ATI RadeonHD 5870
  • Hard Drive: 8 GB available space
  • Sound Card: Compatible with DirectX 9.0c or higher
  • Network: Internet connection required for online play and product activation

Recommended

  • OS: Windows 7 SP1
  • Processor: Intel CoreTM i3 2100 3.10GHz or AMD A8 3870K 3.0GHz
  • Memory: 4 GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 465 or higher, ATI Radeon HD 6870 or higher
  • Hard Drive: 8 GB available space
  • Sound Card: Compatible with DirectX 9.0c or higher
  • Network: Internet connection required for online play and product Activation

Bandai Namco has also posted the recommended requirements for players who are wanting to tackle the game on the hardest difficulty settings available to them:

Gimp

Console gamers, as usual, just need to do some manual labour and insert the disc into their machines. Dark Souls 2 is out on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on March 14, and PC later in April.

I want a 290, but the way the Rand is going it’ll probably be cheaper to buy a Filipino house boy & have him draw on the screen.

About as good as an etch-n-sketch. So on par with Titanfall.

The house-boy will be cheaper than Titanfall too, so probably a good buy.

I was actually hoping that this would at least strain the hardware. Why do you need to be a dick?

All I want is for the kb&m controls to be okay. That would be a massive improvement over DS 1.

Dammit Darryn, you skipped the most important requirement.
Minimum: Hope, dreams and soul of 1 player.
Recommended: Souls of a Friend List

We own all your souls, we don’t need the friends list. 😛 Recommended is like our minimum. You’re not a ginger until you own at least 100 souls.

When a non ginger attempts to play in Gingercore their life force will be sucked out via PS eye, Kinect or Webcam.

Those devices already suck your life force, ginger or not.

    I’m so ready.

Dark Souls ruined other games for me. Ever since I got hooked to it I can’t really appretiate many more games without getting bored a few hours into them, but a sequel…

Do you even praise it, casuls?

Yeah I know right…..one of the reasons I invested years ago in DX11 tech was that I could benefit from it before anything else, but yet I am still forced to eat up regurgitated garbage from lesser engines.

You can still get great fidelity on DX9, but at the cost of resources since so much has to be enabled in order to get amazing fidelity. Serious Sam III: BFE to mention one. That game has “INSANE” settings that will destroy the best of computers if they are not up to par. I should know since I have one such computer.
