If you were eagerly awaiting a Dark Souls-esque challenge on the newer batch consoles, then you probably have a PS4 waiting for Bloodborne early next year. That was the only game on its way from developers From Software, exclusive to Sony’s new console as a spiritual successor to Demon’s Souls. That’s not the case anymore though, as both consoles will now get some Dark Souls loving next year.
And in what is becoming traditional fashion, it’s going to be a remaster. Dark Souls II is heading to PS4 and Xbox One, with a new updated, all-inclusive version called Scholar of the First Sin. The remaster will include all three DLC packages the game has already received, as well as the nifty 1.10 update which adds enhanced item descriptions, better balancing and more narrative focused NPCs.
The new and improved Dark Souls also gets a bump up in the visual department, upgrading to DirectX 11. This means better lighting, higher resolution textures and better performance overall. Dark Souls II will look and sound better on newer consoles, as you would expect from a re-release. The remastered version will also come to PC and older consoles, although the latter won’t be getting the visual reworking.
Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin will be out on April 7th, after the launch of the highly anticipated Bloodborne. This means that you can still get your Souls fix without the need for a PS4, but if you’re rocking Sony’s latest console then this probably doesn’t mean much. The first Dark Souls is still considered widely as the better game – and a remaster more players would gladly double down on.
But what say you? Was Dark Souls II a grueling enough experience for you to pay entrance again? Or will you just wait until From Software gets to another eventual sequel? Personally, I think if they’re going to remaster any game, make it the one that fewer people have played and go for Demon’s Souls.

DS1 was the better game but I still enjoyed DS2. Don’t think I enjoyed it enough to pick up a remaster though, ESPECIALLY since Bloodborne isn’t on XB1. Still sour about that.

Meh… I played Dark Souls 2 and it just didn’t grip me like Dark Souls 1 or Demon Souls – never bothered finishing it (it’s sitting in my cupboard, taunting me!). So think I’ll give this one a skip. Rather check out the true new-gen From title, Bloodborne.

If it releases for a decent price, I might consider it. DSII was fun enough. Yes, not nearly as good as Dark Souls, but still enjoyable. I did not play the DLC stuff, so it might be worth it for me.

I figured they’d do this, but I think they should have pulled a Bayonetta 2 on Wii U and given me both Dark Souls and Dark Souls 2 Remastered and Redone for the Next Gen Experience in the same “Collection.”

Also These so called next gen games have far too many normal maps being pushed a little to much. It looks very ugly.
