I know I’m not the only one who loved the idea behind the Darksiders franchise. Sure, it was just a dark take on Zelda mixed with Prince of Persia in its execution, but that didn’t make it any less cool an idea. With the IP sale to Nordic following the closure of THQ, people may have given up on seeing anything more from that universe, but with a remaster coming to PS4 and Xbox One, a new game must be relatively close upon the horizon.
As we already knew, it’s called the Deathinitive Edition, it’s a visually updated version of Darksiders 2 that includes all the DLCs running in native 1080p resolution. Beyond the graphical upgrade, balancing and loot distribution has also been done to improve the gameplay experience. According to the press release, Reinhard Pollice, Business & Product Development Director at Nordic Games has the following quote for ease of copy and paste:
We took over the franchise roughly 2 years ago and thought about the next chapter for Darksiders ever since then. Naturally (and extremely excitedly!), there will be a large-scale project based on Darksiders, but for now it is very important for us to take care of the existing games and make those available to a broader audience. Bringing Darksiders 2 to current gen was a logical step for us and the team at Gunfire Games know their trade inside-out, so we easily and quickly had lots of ideas that we wanted to realise for this specific edition.
I just want to pause and point out the truly exciting phrase in there – there will be a large-scale project based on Darksiders. I am so keen to see more from this franchise – I really loved the idea behind it and I hope that they can do something truly special with it. Of course, not everyone played Darksiders 2 before, so this could be a nice first encounter for those who don’t know anything about the franchise. Plus, maybe after fixing the visuals, balancing and loot, the Deathinitive Edition of the game will one that’s way more worthwhile to play than the original. The remaster releases on PS4 and Xbox One this winter (which in the Southern Hemisphere means our summer).
We aren’t even at E3 yet and the remake/remaster announcements just keep coming. How many more franchises do you think will be getting this treatment before the week is up?

I will double dip with a smile! Loved both Darksiders games. The way Death moved in 2 was very much like an animal, they nailed his movement… Hope the next one is co-op, that would be epic.
PS I have been loadshed from 06:00 this morning, most ridiculous time of all! Can’t even sort my 5 year old out for school…

I’m personally checking that Sniper Elite 3. I’ve played, and loved, all the previous installments and it’s great fun in co-op. Sticking to my rule though. 70% off or more, or no buy.

Or in the case of Skyrim you just get the free HD DLC.
