David Bateson outs Hitman 5 – Square Enix says “WTF?”

Come on! You know David! He’s the guy who has voiced Agent 47 in every Hitman game ever made. He knows the series. He knows stuff about the long-awaited sequel to Bloodmoney. He’s also, technically, South African. Who knew? I didn’t, but that’s awesome to know!

In an interview over on The Gaming Liberty, Bateson gave some in-depth information on all things Hitman related, including his opinion on the movie with Timothy Olyphant. About the next Hitman game, however, Bateson was more tight-lipped, but the mere mention of the project got him decidedly excited. The thing is, Square Enix (who would publish Hitman 5) has no idea what he’s talking about.

“I am under contract not to say anything,” Bateson said, “There have been delays. However, like I said earlier, if the artwork is anything to go by… brace yourself!” Of course, he had a little more to say, and when asked about his fans and their response to his work he replied: “That kind of dedication and appreciation of the game deserves repayment… with an even more gob smacking installment in Hitman 5. I don’t envy IO Interactive for the pressure they must be under to deliver. I am utterly convinced they will!”

Well, the game has not officially been announced, but voice actors letting information slip early is something most gamers will be familiar with. What does Square Enix have to say about this? According to VG247, Square told them that, “Mr. Bateson’s comments are flattering, though come as surprise to us, as we are currently not working with him on any projects”.

Whether Square’s response means somebody else is voicing Agent 47 (in which case: awkward for Bateson) or there is no Hitman 5, has yet to be confirmed. In the meantime, we can look forward to the second Hitman film to keep our contract-killer hunger satiated. Incidentally, Bruce Willis is in the second Hitman film. How did I not know that?
