Deadmau5 trolls Sony with “lost” PlayStation Vita

Deadmau5, the Canadian electronica DJ, producer and entertainer who recently had a successful stint in South Africa has trolled the heck out of Sony. Deadmau5 is providing music for Vita launch title Sound Shape – so Sony thought it wise to grace him with a Vita months before its release. It’s a decision they spent a lot of the weekend regretting.

“FUCK! I left my PSP Vita in a fuckin cab, calling cab company and they say they have like 500 dispatched now. Gunna be a long night… :(" the DJ tweeted after leaving this weekend’s Spike VGA awards, where he also provided some of the evening’s entertainment. “I’m sure this woulda went over a lot better if it wasn’t the fucking only demo unit outside Sonys walls,” he continued.

The internet was aflurry with accusations of idiocy, while Sony execs probably spent the remainder of the weekend sweating bullets and preparing for seppuku. It turns out the whole thing was just a ruse, when nearly two days later DeadMau5 revealed he hadn’t lost the thing at all – and had pretended he’d misplaced the sought-after device in order to ruffle some feathers.

"Sorry! didn’t lose the lose the PS Vita! i just wanted to see how much management would freak out over it,… " he tweeted later, including a adding a link to a Facebook photo of the device.

I think it’s safe to say he won’t be given a PlayStation 4 ahead of time unless, of course, this was all just a huge marketing stunt. What do you think? Did DeadMau5 troll everyone, did he really lose the thing and then cover it up to save face – or was it pure marketing?
