Whilst discussing a partnership with the Official Playstation Magazine in the UK and the nifty Killzone 2 stuff that they are packaging together with the new issue, David Wilson, the UK PR Manager at SCE UK, had the following to add:
“Killzone 2 has been a long time in the making, and best showcases why PlayStation 3 is the only console powerful enough to deliver a ground-breaking title of this nature.”
Give me a break Mr. Wilson and tell your company to stop running it’s mouth.
More after the jump.
Why is it that Sony still think that they can pull this whole story of the Playstation 3 being so incredibly powerful and amazing that nothing else can come remotely close to it.
Please. Both the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3 have shown that they are very capable and that at the end of the day, the playing field is pretty much level. I have yet to see any of these two consoles pull off a game that the other could not.
At worst, the other console would run a little slower but saying that the Playstation 3 is “the only console powerful enough to deliver a ground-breaking title of this nature.” is an absolute heap of donkey dung and Sony knows it, so I wish they would stop saying it. Blu-Ray doesn’t count because it has nothing to do with power and the game could be split onto two discs.
I really see no reason why Gears of War couldn’t run on Playstation 3 and why Killzone 2 couldn’t run on the Xbox 360. Making statements that your console is the only one powerful enough to handle a game is rather silly in my opinion and makes you look like a fool.
Unless of course, he was talking about the Wii and completely forgot that the Xbox 360 existed.

Yes,Killzone2 looks pretty and everything, but personally,
I haven’t seen anything so far about it that requires
any more “power” than COD4 needed.

I just saw that Eurogamer has more of the interview up and has possible the best Hirai quote of all time…
“We don’t provide the ‘easy to program for’ console that [developers] want, because ‘easy to program for’ means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so then the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine-and-a-half years?”
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/hirai-were-the-official-industry-leader
So they are intentionally making life difficult for developers and not giving gamers what they want… I gotta love the logic

umm what do you expect them to say.. hey guys we got this exclusive title for the ps3 and we couldn’t be bothered to maximise the capabilities of the ps3 so we hope you like our half hearted effort!
maybe you should wake up and realise that when marketing anything, marketers should focus on positives only.
its not fanboyism, its marketing. you unfortunately are the one coming across as a fanboy.

is it that hard to believe ps3 is the only console that can run kz2? this article is based purely on opinion without a fact in sight. u really think 360 can run a game with 250+ lightsources on screen at once? u really think it wont have framerate problems? u really think 1 kz2 lvl, being 2 gigs, 10 levels making it 20 gigs, + all the additional material making it 30 gigs or so, you think 4 disk FPS shooter would run well on 360? you think the processor could take it, when it red rings running halo wars? u kidding me? go watch the latest dutch interview dubbed in english and wait till they show u the PSU capabilities on screen…then rewrite your article again…u uneducated garbage of wasted journalism space

Just play Uncharted, MGS4 or wait for Killzone 2 because it will blow your mind. Kilzone 2 almost looks as good as Crysis on high settings. Look for the comparisons videos for more prove of your undeniable denial… Nobody pointed a gun at you to buy an xbox so the only one who needs to keep his mouth shut is you. PR are PR and you can’t change that… If they want to Hype their products then let them be. They need to sell their products you know.

Sony needs to shut up? Are you serious?
Meanwhile,Microsoft parades around spewing bullshit for three years straight

And it’s perfectly fine?.Double standards or what?
I’m glad Sony is finally trash talking Microsoft.Maybe Microsoft will finally STFU now.Their hardware sucks, their 09 game lineup is pathetic. And both consoles have a 17 million online userbase.
Microsoft and it’s diehard fanboys like you are running out of things to brag about.

Well, I do think that the PS3 is probably only capable of a game such as Killzone 2…. I mean, the Xbox 360 has been out on the market for 3 years going on into it’s 4th year, and nothing has came out on the 360 exclusively that comes as close to Killzone 2 other than Gears of War.
I don’t know why so many people have a hard time admitting that the PS3 is the more powerful console, because IT IS, it’s just a fact. The Original Xbox was more powerful than the PS2 because the Xbox came out a year later, and the same applies to the PS3.
When it comes to Processing, the Playstation 3 does have an edge, and I’ve heard a couple of developers say that the Raw Processing Power of the PS3 just amazes them. I think the 360 is probably capable of pulling off a game that is as graphically stunning as Killzone 2, but when it comes to all the technical details associated with this game, I’m not so sure.
Anyways, this is just Sony hyping up Killzone 2, what you you expect?
It’s funny because when Microsoft PR like Don Mattrick and Aaron Greenburg run their mouths for no apparent reason, I don’t see articles like this popping up wanting Microsoft to Shut Up.

Good lord, the amount of bile spewed in this comments sections.
Fun Fact: Sony has this incredible ability to say really really stupid things. Remeber the PS3 pricepoint and how people must work hard and save to buy it? The PSP have a broken square button and thats intentional? The Emotion Engine of the PS2 being the most ZOMG thing ever and an entirely new experience?
Exactly.
I love the PS3 as much as the next person, but GOOD LORD Sony says some silly things.

Actually there has been plenty of “Microsoft are evil” articles on this site, especially after the whole Gears debacle, the new swopout procedure that has us waiting for ages, and the fact that newer consoles are still getting the RROD.
As for the killzone hype… that’s marketing. If Sony are about the publish the best looking console game ever they are bound to brag that the other console can’t do it. Even though we know that the xbox will have something looking just as good within 18 months, and the PS3 will have something looking even better a little later.
Competition is good.

It really is ruining this generation of gaming. Can’t wait till they pull the plug on it,and bring out a console truly worthy to be called a “Next gen console” I mean,360 uses a f*cking disc tray.C’mon..
Even the Wii is better then that..

Yes marketing is good… but I gotta agree with the site here… Sony do need to learn to STFU!
The 360 is capable of running a game like KZ2… just wait and see… in a few months we will start seeing screens of a game coming out on the 360 that will amaze everyone. I still think Alan Wake will look even better. The PS3 might have a better processor, but the 360 outshines the PS3 in other areas. At the end of it… the consoles are pretty much on par.
And so what if the stages take up 2gigs each, with the 360, they will just compress everything more on the disc. I remember back when they did the Assassin’s Creed comparison. The game looked better and ran smoother on the 360, yet took up almost 20gigs of space on the PS3. Give each console its credit!
And Sony, don’t make statements about your console being the only console available that could run something like that, you will eat your words! But then again, Sony loves eating their words, that’s pretty much all they do…
And no… I’m not some MS fanboy, I hate MS more than I hate Sony… I wish they could both change how they do business…

Is KZ2 worth R800? yes
Is GOW2 worth R700? yes
Is PS3 worth R5500? yes
Is Xbox360(arcade?) worth R1799? yes
Is there a point to the price/value argument? no
Note: Pricing may vary. Terms and conditions apply.

obviously due to copyright infringement. but both are capable of the same things. MS went as far to say last year. MGS4 would have no problem running on the 360 if push came to shove
