Deep Silver “delighted” with Metro: Last Light sales

unexpected

I honestly can’t remember the last time a publisher said it was happy with sales of its games, which is why publisher Deep Silver’s latest statement has me shocked. They’re apparently rather delighted with the commercial reception of 4A Games’ Metro: Last Light.

In a decidedly fluffy and filled-with-rainbows press release, Deep silver revealed that Metro Last Light has sold significantly better than Metro 2033, saying that the new games  "has enjoyed a stunning first week of sales, significantly outselling its predecessor Metro 2033 over the same launch period".

So good have its sales been, that the game’s first week sales on PC have already eclipsed Metro 2033’s sales within its first three months of availability.

"We are delighted with the deserved critical and commercial success the game has achieved, and hope that this success represents a statement of intent for future quality titles from Deep Silver," said Deep Silver’s international commercial director Menno van der Bil.

4A Games is equally enthralled that they’re finally getting the sort of reception they rightfully deserve.

"4A Games are honoured by the reception our latest project has received,” said creative director Andrew Prokhorov.

"We are a small but dedicated team who are lucky to have been given the creative freedom and support to make the kind of experience we dream, as gamers, of playing. Our work on Metro: Last Light continues with new single player DLC, and we look forward to revealing future projects from the team. We want to thank all the Metro fans for support we have received."

We through the game was excellent. It’s also really refreshing to see a publisher happy with sales, in a world where Tomb Raider’s 3.5 million opening sales are “disappointing.”

Aww, bless their cotton socks. Poor souls. Sadly, these hard-working, passionate individuals will cherish their sales, and CoD will eclipse it all with more record-breaking first-week sales numbers because people are stupid.

The sales might eclipse it…but the quality of the game may never

Well CoD:The scooby doo mysteries (Translated: Ghosts) will lose quite a few customers who prefer cats to dogs. Then again they will gain more dog lovers. Then again the next CoD after that will require you to tame dinosaurs and shoot blaster rifles. Actually … I would most likely play that.

I am really glad to see a publisher and dev smile a bit about their sales. Shows that these guys, while still wanting to make money, are still happy enough to know people really enjoyed their game and that it was well received.

    What was Tomb Raider’s budget?

      They needed to sell 5million copies to break even. 5million x $60 = $300Million.

I still do not understand it. All I know is that half of that goes to Marketing the game. So I would say $100Million to make it, $100million to market and the other $100million is all lies.

      GTAIV also cost $100Mill. Crazy.

This is the problem, they went overboard with Tomb Raider’s promotion and this is a problem with publishers. They are shooting themselves in the feet trying to emulate CoD’s success story.

They only ever declare half the figures tho which is annoying, so they say the game is a loss but is it a loss by expectation or a physical loss / write off to the studio.

Ok, I was semi-interested in this game but hell based on this I am going to go out and buy it. I really like it when you get responses like this instead of pissing and moaning about “only” getting 3.5 mil sales.

But hell my wallet is going to take a beating in June, Last of Us, Rugby Challenge 2, Cricket 2013, Moto GP and Deadpool! I still have to get games like Grid 2 and this Metro Light.
