Desktop Dungeons town

The time has finally come – Desktop Dungeons will be releasing on Steam 7 November 2013. To go with that launch, QCF Design has released a launch trailer starring the exuberant Grant Hinds and some fantastic cooking skills.

First things first, the trailer:

For those sans video ability or interest, the trailer is essentially a spoof cooking show wherein Grant throws all manner of things into a bowl to cook up a “bite-sized adventure”. Very cute, funny and well done. I’ve got to say it’s a nicely polished trailer – and exciting to know that Desktop Dungeons is releasing soon. By next week Thursday, you can all be downloading your official version of Desktop Dungeons. I expect productivity to drop to an all-time low on Friday.

For those still curious about what the gameplay is like, check out my amazingly awesome let’s play where I test out this “bite-sized” play time with a 10-minute run at the game. Plus, the thing now has music, which has been supplied by Danny Baranowsky and Grant Kirkhope – which is pretty damned exciting. Danny Baranowsky contributed to the soundtracks of some of your favourite indie games; Super Meat Boy, Canabalt, and The Binding of Isaac. Grant Kirkhop, meanwhile was responsible for the music in some of the very best N64 games; GoldenEye 007, Banjo-Kazooie, Donkey Kong 64, and Perfect Dark – as well as the sweeping orchestral soundtrack in Kingdoms of Amalur: The Reckoning.

If we’re not wrong, Desktop dungeons will be the first South African developed game to get a proper Steam release – and the boys from QCF should be proud of everything they’ve accomplished.

I know! Not to mention my wishlist backlog which currently has something like 8 games on it.

But whats the point of the wishlist? Other than reminding yourself what to buy? Or maybe if someone wants to gift you a game?

I like to think of my Steam backlog as a badge of honour, showing my dedication to gaming, and definitely not as a sign of compulsive special buying.

Damn I almost bought Metro Last Light yesterday! Was $15.99… I had to walk to the dog and rethink my financial situation before sanity prevailed.

Yeah I got it for R53 on takealot! Ok so my only reason for not buying was that I want a physical copy!

lol me too – but I then I looked at the DLC which brought the price up to around $33 & decided against it.

Jip, but I dont care for the DLC. I only want the game and then maybe the Ranger mode dlc, which was $1.99.

Mine too. I think I might be fortunate this time around, there’s no older AAA I can think of that I really really want other than the new Metro. All the new stuff like Batman AO won’t have too much of a discount, if any.

Items I’m watching on my wishlist are:
            1. Metro LL
            2. Bioshock Inf
            3. Borderlands 2 (maybe)
            4. Skyrim DLCs
            5. FC3
            6. FC3 Blood Dragon
            7. ARMA tactics

BioShock Infinite should top that list! But Metro LL sounds epic, so I will let it slide.

            October 29, 2013 at 08:45

Oh yes, Bioshock. I want that too. Borderlands 2 is great – you should definitely get that. Far Cry 3 was damn good too. Only just started Blood Dragon, but got distracted – seems like fun. If the Skyrim DLCs are cheap cheap I’ll get them, otherwise not too bothered – I hate to admit I got bored with Skyrim after a while.

Poor thing to compare, a shitty cutscene. The difference when actually playing the game is quite a bit more noticeable than that.

Will be released…not “be releasing”. The game is not releasing anything, it is being released. This is such an annoyingly acceptable Americanised way of using the variations of the word release. It seems to have become quite acceptable in the gaming community.
