Destiny 2: Curse of Osiris will feature cool new weapon quests and zones to explore

Purse-of-Osiris

A few months after Destiny 1 launched, it was met with its first piece of DLC content: The Dark Below. On the surface, that expansion was designed to add a substantial amount of new content to Destiny. In terms of story and lore, it certainly did! But beyond a new raid and some cool-looking gear, The Dark Below was a damp squib that did little to keep players truly invested in Destiny.

Bungie learnt from that experience, eventually offering more substantial content for coin. It’s a trend which looks to continue with the first such Destiny 2 expansion, the Curse of Osiris. Bungie has been detailing plenty of new features, zones and enemies for the Vex-centric adventure. Here’s everything we learnt from last night’s livestream:

Public Events

  • Curse of Osiris will introduce a new public event, in the form of the Mercury Vex Crossroads.
  • While some public events in Destiny 2 can be complete on your own, the Mercury Vex Crossroads will necessitate the need for a team if you want to complete it.
  • The event itself is capable of taking place anywhere in the primary six parts of the new Mercury zone, so that all players can find a chance to progress and engage in the event.
  • Progress will also unlock new areas, as an instance of Guardians defeating Gatekeeper boss was shown. This resulted in a key being dropped, that could be used to disable a Vex cannon and unlock a new area to explore.
  • The Mercury Public event will of course have a Heroic Trigger, as well as two chests of loot.

The Lighthouse and weapon quests

  • In the new Lighthouse social space features a more streamlined design, so that players won’t need to run vast distances so that they can interact with vendors and characters.
  • Brother Vance returns, acting as a guide and a vendor who’ll help unlock endgame weapons by handing out quests to players.
  • These new weapons feature a Vex design that were pioneered by Osiris himself.
  • The adventures to earn these weapons will also change how players interact with the environment.
  • Brother Vance also has Heroic Adventures to hand out, as well as 11 Lost Prophecy missions.

Lost Prophecies

  • Each Lost Prophecy is built around one of the verses written in the book of Osiris.
  • Verse 3 was shown off, which required players to obtain tablets of Concentrated Radiolarion Culture and Advanced Paradox Amplifiers. These were obtained by participating in Mercury activities, Strikes, Public Events and the Crucible.
  • With that Verse complete, Brother Vance transmuted the tablets and unlocked a node on the Forge which allowed the Guardian to claim a new weapon.
  • That weapon was the Jack Queen King hand cannon by the way.
  • All of the weapons available via this Verse and Node system will reference Osiris and his exile on Mercury.

The Infinite Forest

  • The Infinite Forest was detailed further, as players were given a deeper look into the Vex simulation that plays across multiple timelines.
  • Some timelines across the infinite possibilities explored have resulted in a Vex victory, such as an Adventure where the Vex destroyed the sun like some sort of mechanical Mr Burns scheme.
  • Each variant within these timelines are designed to give players different experiences as enemy locations and set pieces change.
  • Bungie says that the Infinite Forest won’t feature procedurally generated setpieces, but rather “intelligently designed” setups so that it remains consistently fresh to players.
  • There will also be random enemies made up from Destiny’s core antagonists, as the Hive and the Fallen also pop up to menace Guardians.

Adventures

  • One of the new Adventures, Up and Up, was shown off.
  • In it, players will need to navigate a jump puzzle as they ascend upwards. Which is perfect, because now I’ll be the last Guardian laughing thanks to the superior jump of my Warlock that Titan and Hunter players refuse to recognise.
  • Each Adventure has a theme to it.
  • Some Heroic Adventures will have random modifiers present, to create a deeper challenge.

Strikes

  • Strikes will be more story-based in Curse of Osiris.
  • They’ll also have kickass new bosses to fill with bullets.
  • Strikes can also be played solo in case you don’t want to miss out on the story, and then made available in the co-operative playlists afterwards.

Next week’s stream will detail new gear, weapons and the rewards that players will earn for participating in the Leviathan: Eater of Worlds Raid Lair, ahead of the December 5 release of Destiny 2: Curse of Osiris. The first expansion is looking far heftier than Destiny 1’s lacklustre original slices of DLC. Now bow down and acknowledge that Warlocks have the best jumps. You know it to be true.

First Destiny DLC I’m actually not hyped for to be honest.

Seems to be a shared sentiment over on the DTG Reddit.

Will it also feature cool new players to make up for the 60% that already stopped playing this DLC though…….?
