Rat-King

Some guns define your Guardian. If you’re the Swiss Army Knife of your group, maybe the MIDA Multi-tool is your weapon of choice. Maybe you’re a master of thinning the herd, as you swap between Sturm and Drang to cause maximum damage without ever needing to reload. Because I’m a sneaky bugger who values running away more than sticking around for a fight, I’ve found a gun that describes my Guardian perfectly: The Rat King.

It’s a gun that works best in groups, giving any Guardian with one equipped a damage buff that can stack up to six times in succession at its full potential. Kind of perfect for the upcoming Raid then, innit? Here’s how you can get your hands on the big cheese of sidearms:

  • With the main campaign completed and your Guardian at level 20, start the Enemy If My Enemy mission on Titan
  • With the mission completed, you’ll earn the Rat King’s Crew item, which fills in the slot where your Kinetic weapons go.
  • You’ll now have four riddles to solve, the first being on the Rat King’s Crew.

Right! Riddle me this, riddle me that, who’s been eating too many Kit Kats and has an ass made purely of fat? Me, but that’s besides the point. Let’s solve these riddles:

Riddle 1

The Rat King’s Crew runs to and fro, good girls and boys know where to go, pick up your toys and daron your socks, on errands of woe, on errands we walk.

Complete two Patrol missions with at least one Guardian in your fireteam. Remember, you’ll need to have completed the initial patrol quest from Cayde to gain access to these mini-missions.

Riddle 2

The Rat King’s Crew goes arm in arm, to fight as one, to do no harm, so have your fun and run outside, rally the flag and we’ll never die.

Complete two Public Events with at least one Guardian in your fireteam. Easy enough, as Public Events aren’t exactly a mystery when it comes to timing and location anymore. Any two will do.

Riddle 3

The Rat King’s Crew goes four and four, with good good fights they learn to score, then three as one they stand upright, return from past the wall and wanting more.

Complete two Crucible matches with at least one Guardian in your fireteam. Easy peasy, lemon squeezy. You don’t have to win, merely compete as you head to the Crucible.

Riddle 4

The Rat King’s Crew stands three as one, they see Night’s fall and fear it none, but watch the clock as you scale the wall, lest five remain hope comes for none.

Now comes the hard part. You’ll need to complete a Nightfall Strike with at least five minutes left on the clock, so make certain that you’re packing a variety of gear with different elemental burns to make the most of the modifiers that favour either Void, Solar or Arc damage types. You’ll need to rush your way past inconsequential enemies, to really have a chance at beating the clock.

With all of those challenges completed, your Rat King’s Crew item will then transform into the fabled Rat King exotic sidearm.

  1. Want it. But damn that last quest. I still need to get to a decent light level to take it on
