Destiny 2 rumours point towards a massive shake-up and a “completely different game”

I’m fairly happy with Destiny: Rise of Iron being a love letter to fans who have stuck around since the vanilla edition of that game was unleashed in 2014. And it’d be rather apt, because Bungie is focused on a sequel right now that has yet to be officially revealed. Destiny has had a tremendous run so far however, blazing a path on console and…well only console, as PC gamers were properly out if luck.

And that’s a shame, because I genuinely think that Destiny would have flourished on that platform. Good news then, as the proper sequel will be available on personal computers according to sources over at Kotaku and NeoGAF. The GAF threads were aflame with these rumours earlier as a poster named benny_a wrote about how his pal at Activision had revealed the extra platform for Destiny 2, which Kotaku’s usually reliable sources confirmed.

But here’s where things get even better. According to the various sources, Destiny 2 will see additional studios add some muscle to the development process. Skylander’s Vicarious Visions and High Moon Studios will lend some aid to Destiny 2, a move that’ll probably pay off handosmly for any of the third-person or Sparrow racing sections if they’re carried on over in the sequel.

But here’s the biggest kicker: It sounds like Destiny 2 will set players back to square one, as Kotaku detailed it:

Over the past few months, I’ve heard that Bungie’s leadership wants Destiny 2 to feel like a proper sequel, even if that means leaving old planets, characters, and activities behind. In conversations with me, people connected to Bungie have made comparisons to Blizzard’s Diablo 2, which iterated on the first game in some incredible ways but didn’t carry over characters or content from Diablo.

I don’t know exactly how much will change in Destiny 2, but all signs point to the developers starting from scratch. “D2 is a completely different game,” said one person familiar with development. “The Taken King was a reboot for Destiny 1 to fix small things. This is the overhaul to fix big things.”

Which probably means that the Guardians you’ve been using for hundreds of hours in Destiny, won’t carry on over to the sequel as players are instead incentivised with some rewards for being loyal or something. It’s a big shake-up according to the sources, who say that Bungie’s April staff reorganisation resulted in Taken King director Luke Smith and executive producer Mark Noseworthy being handed the same jobs for Destiny 2 and rebooting the story entirely.

In retrospect, Destiny offered a fairly solid online experience with minimal latency issues. Definitely looking forward to revisiting the Destiny universe. Every time I see a article about Destiny, I crave it…..

Oh you, Bungie! You mean you’re going to shake things up by doing the most controversial thing ever…. like moving the story from the grimoires to… SHOCK… in the game?

As long as they don’t screw around too much with the movement and gun play I will be there! I don’t even mind that I have to start my character over. It will actually be a good thing to reset everything and give us better story!

What a load of BS and the crappy part added on is that you have NO choice, cause they will force the update on you and your guardians will be gone forever.Joh.
Bungie be like “Let them level to the max light…if they can, then we crush them by not allowing them to use their fav beloved guardian in D2……bwahahahahaha”
