Destiny first preload-able PS4 title

Sometimes I hate my internet connection. At least it’s fairly stable, and before people tell me to switch, just know that there is almost no infrastructure in my too-quickly-developed hipster neighborhood. Downloading huge games can be problematic for me, which is why preloading will make me seriously happy.

According to a PlayStation support page, Destiny will be the first title to get pre-loading via the PSN:

Beginning with Destiny, certain pre-ordered titles can be automatically be pre-loaded prior to their release. This lets you rest easy knowing that your game will be ready for play the second its release date hits.

For all the PC gamers out there, this probably seems common sensical – it’s a feature that’s been available to you lot for a while. However, new generation console users haven’t had this functionality, and it will certainly save on heartache when launch day comes. I suppose they are finally realizing just how big these games are – with that many GB to download I don’t care how fast your line speed is, it will still take a while before you’re able to play.

According to the support page, you can even set your PlayStation to automatically preload games that you’ve preordered. Somehow, that makes me feel a little too happy. It’s almost like my PS4 is becoming my butler. Now if only on launch day it would come into the room and cough unobtrusively and then tell me that my game is ready for me. Talk about full service.

Destiny is currently available for preorder on PlayStation – remember that if you preorder you get access to the Beta that will be taking place in July.

Then you can install the game when you get the disk and wait 2 days for the day one patch to finish downloading XD

I suppose it comes on a disc then so you won’t need to download it. Only thing you will need to download is the day one patch :

Step back one step guys… The ***BETA***… I’m sure BTGames will release the Beta Keys to pre-orders, but will they be released on the day the Beta goes live (Thus meaning the download will probably only end a day or two before the Beta ends…) Anyone had any experience with pre-order beta stuff? I know BF4 beta keys were sent out a day or two before the Beta started.

Got my Wolf on Tuesday but only started playing yesterday cause of a 10Gb day one patch. Would have been less of an issue if I had bought it on steam pre-orders but I got an awesome lanyard with a built in bottle opener so meh. 🙂

If I bought more games online I would be so happy. Still a pity about PS Now.

Hope they have a longer preinstall period than Steam, a week or two would be handier than a few days.

Games on PS store is just to expensive, take watchdogs 899 on the store, but the disk version is 759 at BT games. Take into account the data cost vs. selling of the disk afterwards. Then digital pre-ordering just does not make sense at all.

Problem is that the console heavies don’t want to piss off the retailers. So they have kind of “agreed” that price won’t be less than retail.

I agree with you though, but alas for the moment it makes no sense.

Will there be locally avilable servers for this game and for The Division.. I have this fear in my soul… that u spend 2 days downloading a game and then get voilated by the Internet with lag and the game becomes unplayable..
