Destiny is "on final approach" for release

Bungie ping

Last week we heard how Destiny lost one of their best composers, Marty O’Donnell, when he was fired from Bungie. Sad news whenever people lose their jobs, but at least we now hear that the game is still on track, and will feature O’Donnell’s music.

First up, Eurogamer interviewed Bungie COO Peter Parsons who said:

I think the Bungie fanbase is going to look forward to hearing Marty’s music, Mike Salvatori’s music, C. Paul’s music and Paul McCartney’s music in the game. That’s going to be exciting for people. It’s going to be a great, fantastic experience.

I believe people will be transported not just by the activities and the stories within the Destiny universe but by the sights and the wonderful sounds and music. We have a fantastic team. We’re pretty close to shipping. There’s a lot of polish left to do, lots of tweaking and tuning, but a lot is already complete.

That last bit is in line with the latest dev blog from Bungie, which states that everything is on track.

We are hurtling towards September 9th. We are on final approach.

[…] We talked a big game last year. We were so excited to talk about our future. Now, it’s time to deliver. It’s time to close this out in a way that we will all be proud of. We owe that to ourselves, and to our legacy. But most of all, we owe it to you.

The game is currently in pre-Alpha and apparently has been revealed to a select bunch of journalists (sadly, not us) along with some pretty new assets that we should be seeing soon. This is a good sign for development – we should be seeing more information as the game moves into Alpha and eventually Beta testing. I’m amped for the game to get into Open Beta so that we can all test it out and see if it’s going to blow us away. Will it surpass Titanfall? Is it going to be everyone’s favorite shooter, and most importantly – will South Africa’s ping get in the way again?

Anyone else feeling that Betas are ruining all the fun in playing new games?

Aye. We couldn’t finish the game in time, so now we will call it “Early access” because it still has a shit load of bugs.

And our internal testers are a bunch of morons.

Kinda yeah. It is hard to resist joining the beta for something. I played the Dark Souls 2 beta, although that didn’t spoil anything, only made me more excited. I’m also a Star Citizen backer with Alpha access, and I will definitely give that a go once I’m able to.

As long as the beta is only a small section of the game, with no spoilers of any kind, I’m not to opposed to it. But for a game that is story driven, I’ll definitely not join a beta of any kind (TLOU comes to mind). That being said, there will be no alpha or beta access for squadron 42 (the SP campaign for Star Citizen), which I’m thankful for.

I thought all console gamers were Betas for the master race though?

Just because we get a game ages before the “Master Race” does not make us beta testers. It just means developers and the world in general does not really give a shit about PC gamers anymore… 🙂

Reason the games come on Consoles before the “Master Race” is because its take longer to downgrade it for the “Master Race”

Of course not. You’re either born into it fully fledged or else you’re discarded like so much rubbish to drool uncontrollably on your couch.

Oh wait… you er… meant playing a beta… not the actual people. Never mind.

I don’t know, it just feels like we are getting early access to a game that isn’t completed or that you cant play further than a certain point. I just remember buying the full game and being so amped to finish it without any problems….

Yes , on some occasions ,but, destiny look big enough to reveal some of it’s “secret sauce ” in the beta and still blow peoples minds with the real thing in September .

Will Destiny surpass Titanfall…oh the lulz I had at that. Titanfall got boring real fast. Sorry but most of us need more stimulation than just running and gunning another team to death objective based or otherwise.

Titanfall is great at first but is merely call of duty with all jumping and robots thrown in.

Betas are to test the servers and such. Why not have them?! That way when the game is releases it doesn’t crash!
