Destiny’s unconventional level cap

Destiny’s beta restricted players to a rather low level of 8, meaning that you probably maxed out your character just a few hours into playing. That got a lot of people talking, considering the level cap was thought to be only 20. How was Bungie going to keep progression going with such a low cap? Well, because things change completely at that level.
For starters, you don’t stop leveling up. A new video posted by IGN clearly shows a Level 29 Titan, which confirms that Destiny’s Level 20 cap is nothing more than a soft cap. By that, I mean that conventional experience gain doesn’t become a factor anymore. The way you progress in Destiny changes at this point, and it’s probably what’s going to keep you playing for months on end.

Once you hit level 20, XP is out and Motes of Light are in. You might have seen those in the beta and not known what they hell they were meant for. Equipping the right gear will reward you with Motes of Light after taking down some Fallen. These Motes are your new form of experience, and help yo push your level beyond 20. In a way, it’s almost like how the Paragon Levels work in Diablo. There’s a level cap, but it’s not a dead end for your character by any stretch.

So at Level 20 everything becomes more about the gear you’re using than XP grinding, which is how a lot of other MMO’s work in fact. It’s probably just the tip of the iceberg in terms of Destiny’s endgame content, proving that Bungie definitely have a lot of content still hidden up their sleeves. You can check out for higher level Titan gameplay below, including how to turn your Titan into Superman.

Diablo 3 did not have huge areas with people from all over the world running around fighting fighting enemies. It never had a hub world where real people could gather and hang out. This game has SO many MMO-like qualites, but they don’t want to admit its an MMO. But why though? Are they afraid of the of being tied down to MMO conventions

I am so in love with the game, that I don’t even care what they call it…. It can be whatever you as the player want it to be, co-op, single player, multi player… free roam sandbox…. anything… anything… even a Lego game if you look hard enough!!!

While I totally agree, I’m just trying to suss out what parts of an MMO they feel they aren’t about. “If it looks like an MMO, smells like and MMO and tastes like an MMO, then I’m gonna says its a gorram MMO!”.

I’ll stick with the hunter for my starting class.

I just hate that the golden gun is not just the amount of bullets but also on a timer. The titan and warlock can easily clean room in one fell swoop.

Its very situational, but once you know when to use it, its pretty awesome,

Range + one shot kill = Baws

I do think the Titan will get nerfed – the slam radius…

thats actually quite nice, with most RPGs, no one bothers much with gear untill theyr max level, this way keeps the level growth, but still keeps the armour stuff open.

I dislike leveling for FPS games. FPS games should be about skill. With the right strategy and good enough aim you should be able to take down anything. 😐 This is why I could never get into borderlands.

It was a culmination of things. Articles highlighting innovations that were introduced or streamlined by the Call of Duty series (really?), There was a writer who gave a JPRG game a bad score even though he hasn’t played JRPGs before. Giving games low scores for being too hard. Monopolizing exclusive content and reviews. Pay publishers to review games first.
Then there was this article admitting reviews are skewed
        http://www.zeldainformer.com/news/former-ign-employee-admits-review-scores-are-skewed-due-to-public-relations#.U9tQQGMVfHg
I can probably find more reasons.

Sigh, Activision is going to screw us over with DLC and map packs. As much as I enjoyed the Destiny Alpha and Beta (and will probably enjoy it in a few months time), I am worried. I don’t think it will carry the same amount of content as a typical Borderlands game. I thought that the game would be huge, but the level cap and the recent news about one major hub per planet indicates that Destiny might not be this huge game that we thought it was going to be….

That makes me sad… 🙁 I wanted to explore places… sigh!

What I love about this game, apart from its awesomeness and content, is that you can play with your character on your 360 and One. I am going to do single-player on the One and multiplayer on 360 (yes, I am buying 2 copies). This game was my first insight on the upgraded graphics of the One – it really looks more crisp than on 360. But its cool because now I can play with the same character on my own (One) or with friends (360) without needing more than one character at a time. Sweet,

Oh, and also sweet is the fact that multiplayer matches are equal – meaning advantages are taken away. This is good and eases out the whole “grinding for gear” need. Unless you want to play Iron Banner the whole time
