I’ve spoken a couple of times about my love for 2011’s Deus Ex: Human Revolution. It’s not a perfect game by any means, but it was a damn masterpiece in several other areas. But that’s not the end of the franchise, as next-gen consoles will be getting a taste of augmentation.

Eidos Montreal announced yesterday that new Deus Ex games were in development for PC and next-gen systems, under the label of Deus Ex: Universe. Studio head David Anfossi described the work as “an ongoing, expanding and connected game world built across a generation of core games,” on the Eidos Montreal blog.

I’m really excited to let you know that we are working on an ambitious idea which we’re calling Deus Ex: Universe. It’s a commitment on our part to deliver meaningful content that expands the franchise on a regular basis and to deliver a deep conspiracy that will span several connected Deus Ex games, creating a more immersive and richer experience than ever before.

Deus Ex: Universe will include PC and console games, but also additional Deus Ex games and experiences available in other media such as tablets, smartphones, books, graphic novels, etc.

I’m pleased to confirm that we are already into production of the starting point for Deus Ex: Universe with a new game for PC and next-generation consoles. We’re very excited about it at the studio and I wanted to let you know that most of the team behind Deus Ex: Human Revolution is already working hard on this new game.

It took us four years to learn how to create a unique Deus Ex experience with Human Revolution and it was important for me to keep this knowledge within the franchise.

Also revealed on the blog, is that the director’s cut for Human Revolution will be October 22 in the United States and October 25 in Europe for Xbox 360, PC, Playstation 3 and Wii U platforms.

I’m glad to see that Eidos hasn’t binned Deus Ex. They created something magnificent in Human Revolution, and with an established lore and style in place, I’d be dead keen to go back to the future.

This is what I asked for.

I understand it to mean DX Universe will be the setting for multiple different games. Eg. DX RPG, DX RTS, etc, etc

Either that or multiple storylines within the same universe – allowing for a diverse set of stories and environments, without needing to worry about tying them in to each in some far fetched way.

Definitely agree – cannot wait to delve back into the Deus Ex world. Human Revolution was a fantastic game – the gameplay, music, style, story… All of it combined to create what I thought was a really great, immersive experience. Can’t wait to be immersed in that world once more.

Oddly enough, I never finished the game. I actually got bored of it. I know, it’s odd because it was a great game. Meh.

Yet I finish Skyrim with all its wonderful storytelling. /sarcasm

I like this. What’s the point of creating a whole world if you can’t use it to tell different stories.

YES!!!! So glad to hear this, if its a MMO -like game with the DE:HR feel, we are going to have a winning game on our hands. Darryn, I think one of the things they got 110% right was the atmosphere of the game, never seen one better. Imagine a MMO like this…..*drools.

If they go MMO, they’ll ruin it. If they follow a Dark Souls / Watch Dogs type multiplayer, they might not.

    My man-vegetables almost exploded.

HR is one of my favorite titles, ever. As long as Michael McCann composes the score.
