Devil May Cry is getting remastered

DMC Remaster (1)

I don’t think words can express just how much I adore Devil May Cry. The Xbox 360 and PS3 generation gave us two superb outings in the franchise, with Devil May Cry 4 giving players control of a new demon hunter and DmC Devil May Cry rebooting the series under the guidance of developer Ninja Theory. Two fantastic, incredible games. And now they’re headed to the latest generation of consoles.

DmC Devil May Cry: Definitive Edition will include the original game from the Heavenly Blade developer, as well as all the previously released downloadable content such as Vergil’s Downfall and new challenge modes such as Gods Must Die, Hardcore mode and Must Style mode. As is the norm for remasters, it’ll run at that buttery smooth 60 frames per second and in 1080p.

The only catch however, is the remaster borders on a full price re-release, as it’ll set you back $39.99 / EUR 39.99 / GBP 29.99 when it arrives on March 17. Ouch. The Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition remaster, will be out much later in the year of our Sparda, 2015.

I loved DmC Devil May Cry way too much when it was first released. It was magnificently jam-packed with action, a great balance between light and dark, stylish and a reboot done right. It was also unbelievably faithful to the original games, even with the American tuning. I remember being properly afraid of what the end product would be when this game was announced. I was thankfully, massively wrong in my assumptions, as Ninja Theory blew me away with their debut effort.

Hopefully, (the pricy) sales are enough to justify a Devil May Cry 5.

This pretty much sums up the DMC fan reaction on the net.

Basically Tomb Raider Definitive Edition again: PC version minus some tessellation or whatnot (and locked at 1080p), but with slightly updated textures and some added particle effects, and some added exclusive features (in this case, modes and costumes).

If your playing on 1080p, then this version will probably be better than the little known DMC: COMPLETE EDITION for PC. But for $40? F-that. I have no problem waiting till it’s a used $15 PS4 game to pick it up (like I plan to do with all these remasters).

I am struggling with my own opinion on remastered versions.

On one hand – excellent I get to play all those great games, with everything now included, with a shinier skin.

On the other – well those are all done and dusted; time for a new IP; and why “waste” resources on the old when you could be putting them into the newer update/new IP.

It does seem to indicate one important fact though – publishers are petrified of new IPs or changing existing successful ones, etc as the risks are just too great. Yet if they took chances and didn’t give us sequel 142 they may create a brand new IP they can milk us with for a few years.

There surely must be a law of diminishing returns at some point – even COD suffers from it (FIFA is more up and down); and in the case of Assassin’s Creed, a possible mass exodus from the franchise given its issues but the franchise fatigue was there already.

    I blame Crystal Dynamics…

I LOVE DmC. I am definitely buying it when it hits. Two of my highest hopes are coming – DmC remaster and Saints Row 4 remaster/port

Its like remixes of great music. Somewhere, somehow, you will find another idiot willing to buy it.

IF I hear one more remix of “smells like teen spirit”, I will… I will… uh, be very upset!

Well I know the remastered thing is not for everybody. I for one am very happy to finally play Halo:MCC and the fact that I had to sell my whole DMC collection bec my ps3 broke with this to replace it makes me a very happy man.
