There might be a lesson to be learned in waiting for a game to enjoy some shelf-life before buying it. Hell, even Blizzard isn’t immune to releasing a game that has several bugs lurking inside of it, as day one adopters of Diablo 3 can tell you. Still, the game is much, much better now than the original Error 37-infused mess that launched in 2012. And tomorrow’s latest patch will add more content to that action-RPG.

Patch 2.1 brings with a ton of new tweaks, balances and new modes. One such new addition, are Greater Rifts. These areas can be accessed by slaughtering your way through enemies and filling up a bar as you race against time, with the end result being access to the realm of those light-footed treasure goblins, and grab even more loot. Neat. The bigger the enemy you slay, the quicker the bar fills up, with each Rift conquered opening up access to even more difficult dungeons.

D3 Rifts

There’ll also be seasons to experience in the game, with achievements that are unique to each of them. That means exclusive rewards and even more unique legendary items. There’ll also be a Leaderboard that tracks the progress of you and your friends, in case you feel like bragging. Conquests take that concept even further, with challenges ranging from crazy to mental, and operate on a first come first serve basis.

D3 Seasons

Lastly, there will also be a brand new area to explore. This one is known as The Cesspool, with Blizzard describing it as a “festering, dank underworld” in Nephalem and Greater Rifts. Kind of like my laundry basket then. Patch 2.1 drops tomorrow for everyone, and if you’re itching for more minute details, here’s a full list of what you can expect.

  1. Strange, after getting D3 earlier this year, and with the RoS CE sponsored by Lagz, I did a complete playthrough with a demon hunter, but after finishing the campaign, actually didn’t feel the need to continue (maybe it was diablo fatigue)

    This patch looks nice though!

The campaign is horrible though, I totally understand how it hasn’t tempted you to return.

The real gem is in Adventure mode, and pushing your character to its limit against insane hordes. Maybe it was also the Demon Hunter class that didn’t hold your attention?

I actually really enjoyed the character!

My guess is just fatigue. Did D3 and RoS campaign back to back

Just normal. But yeah, I’m thinking D3 fatigue. After BL2 I’ll prolly go back, or not. Or maybe hit the backlog

If you’re burned out from just normal (firstly, normal is basically the tutorial, the game starts for real from nightmare upwards – it’s not like previous Diablos), then mate, I have some bad news. You’re probably not going to enjoy the rest of the game.

A “festering, dank underworld”? So the southern suburbs. Euw.

Ooooo… Oh no you didn’t! Granted, I’m leaving the South in a few months… But I shall defend it till then! Only once I’ve moved will I become all North and pretentious. 😉

Thanks D! One little thing though, The Cesspool isn’t an actual area. It’s an environment art set that is now enabled to possibly appear within rifts. 😉

On the contrary, Patch Adams exists to cheer us up when we’re down.

We need him now more than ever.

I agree, so being reminded we don’t have him smarts. Did you see the homage to him in the Emmys, onion eye watering stuff…

Finally. My untouched almost perfect Starmetal Kukri can begin it’s quest to find a socket. And maybe Kadala will learn to love me again – finally offering up that T&T.

    Looking forward to this.

Lol, I was given a T&T and Mask of Jeram by Namarius, still haven’t gotten a SMK yet, but I don’t really play with my WD much, Crusader and Monk for me 🙂 (DE4DLOCK3D#2307). WD are pretty epic with the amount of dmg they can deal 🙂

I wonder how large the patch is gonna be.

Also this means I won’t be attempting to connect for a few days. Guaranteed issues.
