Are you an Xbox gamer fond of hackey-slashey-lootathon games, of the Diablo ilk? While Blizzard ponders over bringing their much-loved game to consoles, you’ll be delighted to know that Runic Games has announced that Torchlight, their popular Diablo-esque RPG will be getting the Xbox Live Arcade treatment.

Although it is a Diablo clone of sorts, it does have a high pedigree; Max Schaefer and Erich Schaefer, co-designers of Diablo and its sequel are among the developers’ co-founders. “We couldn’t be happier to bring Torchlight to Xbox LIVE Arcade,” says CEO Max Schaefer. “This is what the fans have been asking for. Torchlight for the Xbox 360 is a new way to experience a great game, and we’re thrilled to work with Microsoft to bring it to fruition.”

If you’re worried about how a decidedly PC-centric game is going to play on consoles, Runic says they’ll be tooling a control system from the ground up, instead of trying to shoehorn traditional mouse-and-keyboard input to a twin-stick controller. According to Joystiq, the entire interface will be a given a console specific overhaul, and will be accompanied by suitable controls. The 360’s dual sticks will be assigned to moving and attacking, the bumpers will be allocated to potions, and other hotkeys assigned to the remaining triggers and buttons.

There’s been no specific release date given – other than that it’ll form part of Xbox Live Arcade House Party promotion – which include a slew of other incredible games like Ubisoft’s Beyond Good and Evil HD remake, the contra-less contra game Hard Corps Uprising, Bejeweled Blitz Live, and Full House Poker. House Party kicks off on February 18, so it’s safe to assume it’ll be some time after then.

Awesome! This is an awesome game. I’m really looking forward to #2. Maybe even more so than Diablo 3…
