Disney Infinity 3.0 is finally doing away with blind power disc packs

If there’s one thing that I’ve always hated about Disney Infinity, it’s the power discs. Or specifically, the fact that they came in blind packaging, so that you never knew which ones you were getting. The discs themselves are pretty neat, adding various features such as team-up characters, buffs and making Disney slightly richer. But getting the discs that you actually want, has always been a chore. Until now that is, as these extras will be sold in a far less frustrating manner.

Disney Infinity power discs will now be sold in packs of four, based on a specific theme, and thus doubling down on a chance to not buy doubles in pursuit of happiness and rare discs. That’s according to this sucker, who spent quite a few beans on those bloody blind packets in the hope that he’d get the rare Mark 42 armour swap for his Iron Man figure, and had to resort to hitting eBay which is something that Darryn should have done all along and I’m drifting off dammit.

Anyway, the quad-pack of discs will retail for $9.99 in the US of A, so expect them to hit the R150+ mark according to my estimations, provided that the Rand doesn’t tank like an analogy about tanks which I’m trying to make right now but can’t seem to get a grip on. The upcoming Tomorrowland flick from Disney is getting in on this power disc action. Here’s what’s inside that collection according to Kotaku, as an example:

• The Retro Ray Gun will give players a blast from the past feel with a crimson and gold retro-futuristic weapon
• Tomorrowland Time Bomb will unleash a powerful shockwave and temporarily freeze your opposition in time
• Tomorrowland Stratosphere allows you to transform the Toy Box with amazing vista from the futuristic world of Tomorrowland (sky dome disc)
• Tomorrowland Futurescape will allow players to experience the utopian city of Tomorrowland (terrain/texture customization disc)

The original idea behind the power discs was essentially school playground training, much like we all did with Pokemon Tazos out of Simba chip packets. Tazos that were always covered in the grime and smell of the most hated of chip flavours, Salt and Vinegar. Now at least, it’ll be much easier to get a collection going in Disney Infinity and funnel even more money into that game universe. As usual, Disney wins. Disney always wins.
